Hello! Here’s what’s happening on Tuesday.
1. US President Donald Trump put North Korea back on the list of state sponsors of terrorism. Trump's new designation allows the US to impose more sanctions on North Korea, which was removed from the list in 2008 by former President George W. Bush in exchange for progress in denuclearization talks.
2. The EU announced it is relocating two of its key agencies from London to Amsterdam and Paris post-Brexit. The two agencies' relocations will affect nearly 1,000 jobs currently in Britain, and millions in annual funding.
3. Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel hinted she's ready for new elections after coalition talks crumbled. After failing to secure a coalition on Sunday, Merkel said she would prefer a new election instead of ruling with a minority government.
4. UK policy chief George Freeman has resigned. Freeman is the latest in a growing line of senior figures to step down from Downing Street in recent months.
5. China has laid out a plan to resolve Rohingya Muslim refugee crisis in Myanmar. China's plan called for a ceasefire in Myanmar's Rakhine State so that the 600,000 displaced Rohingya Muslim refugees can return from Bangladesh.
6. South Korea's spy agency has warned that North Korea's ICBMs may be up to hitting the US by the end of the year. The agency said it is possible North Korea could develop a missile capable of reaching the U.S. mainland, however no sign of an imminent nuclear test had been detected.
7. The Syrian opposition leader abruptly quit ahead of a new round of UN peace talks. The opposition leader did not give reason for his departure, but made mention of Russian-led ceasefire talks done "without consulting the Syrian people."
8. An Israeli minister said that Israel is hosting secret talks with Saudi Arabia. Although the two countries don't share diplomatic relations, both Saudi Arabia and Israel have shared interest in curbing Iran as a main threat to the Middle East.
9. Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah denies sending weapons to Yemen. Saudi Arabia has accused Hezbollah of helping Houthi rebels in Yemen, and playing a role in the ballistic missile attack against Riyadh this month.
10. The UN urged Japan to take in more refugees after it accepted just three people in six months. Japan is one of the developed world's least welcoming countries for asylum seekers.
