The 100 as you know might have changed forever, in a shocking conclusion to season four that suggests a reboot for the series.

Season finale 'Praimfaya' saw Clarke (Eliza Taylor) sacrificing herself to ensure that her friends make it back into space.

"My fight is over."

But she survived the radiation thanks to her nightblood, and the show picks up more than six years later in a huge time jump, with another nightblood named Maddie.

They won't be alone for long, though, as an unknown spaceship begins to descend on Earth...

Show boss Jason Rothenberg has teased the season five "reboot" in various interviews following the finale, and he's excited about what's to come.

"We'll tell the story of how [Clarke and Maddie] came together in season 5, and how they've been surviving as the only two people on the planet – until that ship shows up," he told TVLine.

And about the people on that new spaceship...

"We will definitely tell their story," he said. "Some of them will probably be angry. All of them will be home, alive, and back on Earth.

"I think, in some really cool ways, it's a rebooting of the entire story. The 100 were prisoners when they came to the ground, and they thought they were alone, but they weren't. There were Grounders in this world, which we learned when a spear came out of the woods and impaled Jasper's chest.

"Now Clarke is the Grounder, and these prisoners are the 100. We screw with people's perspectives.

"Of course, the prisoners are going to start as antagonists, but we'll probably dimensionalise them as we do with all of our bad guys."

The CW renewed The 100 for a fifth season back in March.
