Performing a broad range of his songwriting catalogue, 10cc’s Graham Gouldman is returning to Glasgow next month with his project Heart Full of Songs.

The 10cc’s co-founder is embarking on a 15-date tour with the semi-acoustic four-piece and Graham says it feels “great” to be back on the road.

"It’s something I really enjoy so I try and do it as often as we can," he says.

"Obviously we can’t do it all the time because we got back to the same venues a lot of the time but it’s a really enjoyable thing to do and quite different from the 10cc shows in that I can talk about the origins of the songs more.

"People are always interested to hear how a song was written."

Graham formed what became Heart Full of Songs nine years ago for the pleasure of playing his songs acoustically.

As well as hearing songs written for 10cc, audiences will hear hits he has written for the Hollies, Herman’s Hermits, the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck, his own solo albums and his work with Andrew Gold.

Graham’s status as one of the world’s leading songwriters was acknowledged in 2014 when he was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, an arm of America’s National Academy of Music.

He explained: "I’ve got such a lot of songs to pick from I can make sure the songs I’m doing are ones that people will know and even if they don’t know them then they’re songs that they’ll pick up pretty quickly what they’re about.

"Certain songs, you need to listen to them two or three times before you actually get it, but the songs I’m doing are songs that people might not necessarily know, but I hope they’ll get to immediately."

Graham says is looking forward to bringing the tour, which is described as an "exquisite experience", to Glasgow in March after always receiving a great reception from audiences in the city.

"We’re really looking forward to coming back up to Glasgow again," he says.

"Glasgow audiences have always been great, whether it’s with 10cc or Heart Full of Songs, they’re always great for us and have been for decades.

"They’re so warm and the way they’ll react to what we’re doing is brilliant."

So, what can the audience expect when they see Heart Full of Songs live?

Graham says: "They’re going to hear the songs I wrote for other artists from the 60s, 10cc songs, some stuff I did with Andrew Gold and solo album stuff as well and film songs.

"I would hope they’ll learn about the origins of some songs I hope they know and might be favourites of theirs, and I just think they’ll have a lovely night."

Graham Gouldman and Heart Full of Songs will be at Saint Luke’s on Wednesday, March 8.
