11 First Dates hopefuls who looked like celebs

From Digital Spy

With Channel 4's First Dates entering its fifth year, it has now featured *counts on fingers*... er, tonnes of contestants looking for love, including many a celebrity, with the likes of Esther Rantzen, Jessica Wright, Richard Blackwood and Scarlett Moffatt all putting themselves out there.

But we've also had plenty of people who reckoned they looked like celebrities. Some were a little more accurate than others...

1. Harry Styles

When a guy appeared on the show comparing himself to One Direction's curliest-haired member, viewers were having none of it and ripped him to shreds.

"If I had a pound for every time someone said I looked like Harry Styles, I'd be a wealthy kinda guy," said 23-year-old Ashley from Huddersfield, while tweeters compared him more to Disney's Tarzan, Jacob from Twilight, The Predator, Michael Bolton and a 40-year-old.

The girl he was dating must have been into Michael Bolton-looking 40-year-olds, because she agreed to go out with him again. And he paid with all those pounds he's never been given.

2. Kate Middleton

As if she wasn't busy enough in the run-up to the royal wedding, Kate Middleton found time to make it down to the First Dates restaurant. Joke – it was just princess impersonator Jodie from Essex.

When the 29-year-old told her date she worked in IT and also as a lookalike, he guessed it was Kate Middleton immediately. But viewers were having none of it, accusing her of looking more like Martine McCutcheon.

The dinner went royally, though, and the pair organised a second date to The Ritz.

3. Mark (and Jess?) Wright

When a lady called Lauren appeared on the show, she asked producers to match her up with a Mark Wright lookalike and they delivered Essex bloke Dan.

He turned out to be Mark WRONG, because he sat down and immediately ordered a pint of Peroni and two Jäger Bombs, all for himself. Oh, and he really didn't look much like the former TOWIE star, either.

Weirdly, Lauren did look like Mark's sister Jess Wright, which just made the whole request all the weirder. They didn't see each other again and that's probably for the best.

4. Bob Marley

When 70-year-old Marie from Bolton asked First Dates Hotel to set her up with a man who looked like either Elvis Presley or Bob Marley, she was delivered the latter. Enter: 57-year-old Devon, a Rastafarian poet from Huddersfield, who also happened to be a big Elvis fan.

The date went well and the pair went out for Caribbean food in Huddersfield, where the restaurant literally mistook him for Bob Marley and they got the meal for free (we might have made that last bit up).

5. Marilyn Monroe

Elle showed quite the resemblance to Some Like It Hot star Marilyn Monroe. So it made sense that they set her up with fireman Mark, since firemen definitely like it hot.

It seemed like Elle thought she was the actual Marilyn, though, when she refused to pay her share of the bill, leaving the single-dad-of-three to pay the lot.

"I never pay the bill on dates. Why would I?" she claimed, before begrudgingly giving Mark £30 towards the bill. The bill that came to a whopping £137 *eyes water profusely*.

6. Jodie Marsh

Very little fuss was made about Laura from Kent looking like reality TV star Jodie Marsh, since she walked straight on and told everyone she regularly blow dries her downstairs bits.

"I do blow dry my 'noon' with a hairdryer before I put my pants on, so it's dry and it won't smell," said the 39-year-old, describing how it took her four hours to get ready for the date.

It seemed well worth the, um, extra effort since she was matched with a nice chap called Matt, but things went downhill when he revealed he didn't have a car, and the pair did not meet again.

7. Mila Kunis

Ashton Kutcher would have been livid had he switched on Channel 4 accidentally and seen his wife dating a lady called Nancie. Until about half a second later when he realised it wasn't his wife at all, and just a lady called Noura who sort of kinda looked a bit like Mila Kunis, if you squinted.

Viewers, as usual, were having none of it when Noura's date compared her to the Hollywood A-lister on the show.

"I wonder if she knows who Mila Kunis is? Because that ain't it!" said one. While another tweeter delivered the classic: "Mila Kunis? Someone needs to go to Specsavers."

8. Chris Moyles

"If I was to tell you who I look like, the most common one I get is probably Chris Moyles," said contestant Ross when he appeared on First Dates, and for what seems like the first time ever, viewers agreed he was, in fact, a double of the radio DJ.

"I thought that WAS Chris Moyles," said one viewer, with another one tweeting: "He is a better look-alike [than] Chris Moyles himself."

Ross's date Sarah-Jayne agreed, and even left him sat at the table with a piece of paper stuck to his head with 'Chris Moyles' written on it. Just in case anyone couldn't tell.

9. Ben Elton

One First Dates episode paired up burlesque dancer Susie with 38-year-old Trekkie and IT contractor Martin from Essex. The pair discussed their love of superheroes, and Martin told his date how he'd love to be Superman.

"I see myself as a Clark Kent!" he laughed. Viewers, on the other hand, thought he looked more like Ben Elton, with some actually wondering if the comedian had given up crafting jokes and writing plays to go on dating shows.

Superman, meanwhile, was somewhere feeling quite unthreatened.

10. The old man from Up

You can't exactly look like a cartoon, but 97-year-old Richard from London certainly reminded everyone of Carl Fredricksen from Up. Not a balloon salesman, but a World War II veteran, Richard had been widowed – just like old Carl – and was looking for love.

He regaled his date Ruth, 79, with harrowing war tales, telling her about the time a battalion of Germans with tanks came for him and his men.

"We never had a chance," he said as we suddenly got some out-of-season hay fever.

11. Where's Wally?

Vaughn was a Canadian living in the UK, who resembled the most elusive man in history. And he quickly revealed that was the exact reason why he was on the show in the first place.

"Honestly? I'm single because I look like Where's Wally? and no girls are at home with their Where's Wally? book going, 'Aww yeah, he's nice'," said the 41-year-old.

Fair point, Vaughn. Fair point. What probably wasn't fair was producers making him actually dress up as Where's Wally? for his pre-date interview, which we imagine made him feel like a right... twit.
