Ryder has been promoted at Salt, but Mac has given him a tricky first taste of responsibility by ordering him to fire Chloe. He struggles with how to break the news to Chloe, not wanting to ruin their relationship when it's in such an early stage.

Ryder hopes to buy some time while Mac is off work, so he lies that he has already sacked Chloe. This deception catches up with him when Mac arrives for work for the first time in days.

Mac is annoyed when Ryder reluctantly admits that he didn't find the right moment to let Chloe go. She takes decisive action by harshly firing Chloe right in front of Ryder.

Ryder later tries to reason with Mac over what happened, but when she stands firm over firing Chloe, he decides to quit.

Ryder reports back to Chloe that he has quit his job at Salt in order to prove his loyalty to her. Chloe is still not impressed, pointing out that she hadn't asked him to do this.

It's left to Roo to explain things to Ryder, pointing out that quitting isn't the same as simply saying sorry for mishandling the situation. Ryder takes his aunt's advice by apologising to Chloe and is pleased when she accepts.

Meanwhile, Mac realises that she's severely understaffed at the restaurant now that she has lost two employees in a week. She tries to give Ryder his job back, but he's not interested as she still won't re-hire Chloe.

This question puts Ziggy in a tricky position, as she can't reveal the real reasons without disclosing Dean's involvement in covering up Ross's murder.

When Ziggy refuses to open up to Tane, he tries asking Bella instead but continues to get nowhere. Ziggy is dismayed to realise that Tane isn't letting this go and urges him to forget about it, but will he?
