A man who is celebrating his 111th birthday today (Friday) is the second-oldest recorded in the world. John Farringdon lives in Cubbington Mill Care Home.

The home has issued a call out to collect 111 birthday cards for John.

The home said: "Whether they be a beautiful handmade card, note, postcard or even shop bought he will appreciate all the kindness shown."

Last December, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made John's dream come true by inviting the centenarian to visit Downing Street.

Mr Sunak said on Facebook: "Meet John. John Farringdon is 110 years old.

"He’s one of the world’s oldest people. And he lives in Warwickshire.

"John is a big fan of politics, and a lifelong Conservative. He tells me I’m the 23rd person to serve as Prime Minister during his long life.

"When I heard John was visiting Parliament last week, I made sure to invite him to 10 Downing Street, because he’d always wanted to but never had the chance. Can you imagine doing something for the first time at 110 years old?

"John told me he worked for Ford for over 40 years, and whilst there made tank parts for the Army during the war. My first car was a Ford Escort - so we had a lot to chat about.

"He’s still a car enthusiast, having given up driving only 5 years ago! No matter how much is going on I’ll always make time to meet people like John."
