Johnson & Johnson Single-Dose COVID-19 Vaccines Arrive in Houston

Twelve thousand doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine arrived at the FEMA community vaccination center at NRG Park in Houston, Texas, on March 2.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the single-dose vaccine, also known as the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, on Friday, February 27.

“Overall, the vaccine was approximately 67% effective in preventing moderate to severe/critical COVID-19 occurring at least 14 days after vaccination and 66% effective in preventing moderate to severe/critical COVID-19 occurring at least 28 days after vaccination,” the FDA said in a press release.

“Additionally, the vaccine was approximately 77% effective in preventing severe/critical COVID-19 occurring at least 14 days after vaccination and 85% effective in preventing severe/critical COVID-19 occurring at least 28 days after vaccination.”

A representative of the Harris County Public Health Department told Storyful that while the doses were initially delivered to NRG Park they would not be administered at that location.
