There are mounting suspicions that the growing role of social media in our lives – and the obsession with the taking the perfect selfie – may have some detrimental effects on our mental wellbeing.

With this in mind print specialist CEWE Photoworld says it teamed up with mental health charity Mind to re-inspire budding photographers and "bring the joy" back into taking meaningful photos through its My Inspiring Moments UK photography competition.

Amateur photographers in the UK were invited to share the best memories and moments they'd captured on camera, of which 12 were selected as winners.

The winning photographs included a stunning pair of birds captured in flight by Stephen Root, from Burnley, below...

...And the overall winner was Leanne Vennard who impressed judge photographer Julian Calverley with her image below of her friend and her son touching hands across a table.

Vennard commented: "I went out with a photography friend and my son for the first time and my shy quiet boy took to him straight away. My friend took to him too and I was able to get this beautiful shot of them. It’s one of my all-time favourites."

The 12 winning images will now be compiled into a calendar produced by CEWE Photoworld, with a donation from each sale going to Mind.
