New 126-home development could be built in Cambridgeshire village as plans submitted
More than 100 affordable homes could be built on land in a Cambridgeshire village. It follows as outline plans for the development were put forward in October 2024.
The proposals, from Long Term Land Limited, would see 126 properties built near Cambridge Road in Stretham. This includes 75 three-bed houses, 29 two-bed houses, two two-bed bungalows, six two-bed flats and 14 one-bed flats.
The application follows previous outline plans from the applicants for 83 homes on the same land in the village. Separate proposals were also approved last year for 38 homes as well as 19 homes following a successful appeal to the planning inspectorate.

However, in a planning statement, they said that the site had more capacity for affordable homes. They added that the development would also bring forward a new signalised pedestrian crossing across the A10 along with traffic calming and speed reduction measures.
Each home on the development would contain two parking spaces, along with 32 visitor parking spaces. There are also proposals for a community orchard and play area, which aims to create a communal area for residents and surrounding neighbours as well as a space for children to interact.
A design and access statement with the application said: "The site offers the opportunity to naturally extend the existing settlement along Cambridge Road infilling a gap between properties. Our vision is for a distinctive residential neighbourhood that reflects the local character and village setting.
"High quality design together with landscaping will ensure that the development is well-integrated within its surroundings, while proving a mix of much needed affordable and private housing. The site has support from the surrounding community for housing in this location."
A decision on the application will be made by East Cambridgeshire District Council at a later date. To view the plans in full, visit the planning portal, using the reference 24/01135/OUM or click here.
