It was discovered in October last year that convicted sex offender Edwin Swallow had targeted an 11-year-old girl, encouraging her to send sexually explicit photos of herself – and sending photos of his genitalia over a messaging app. He was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, extended by five years on licence. Jonathan Harris was sentenced to an initial jail term of ten-and-a-half years, plus an extended licence period of four years for a life-threatening attack on a 3-year-old boy. Monster Cosmin Burcuta, 18, subjected a woman in Leeds to a prolonged and violent attack as she begged him to stop. The victim described feeling powerless after being raped by the defendant. Burcuta was sentenced to seven years and six months' imprisonment. (Photo: WYP)
Robbie McLaughlin launched into a violent attack as his former partner dropped off his belongings after their break-up. He punched her in the face and body repeatedly, breaking her nose and jaw. Her injuries were so extreme that she later had to undergo five operations, including having metal plates inserted in her face. McLaughlin was handed a total of seven years’ imprisonment. Alfie Mclean has been jailed after kicking his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach. As well as kicking her in the stomach, he repeatedly punched her in the arm, strangled her and threatened her with a knife. He was sentenced to two years and six months in prison. (Photo: WYP)
Drug addict Anthony Poll walked out of John Lewis with thousands of pounds of Calvin Klein clothing - then later shouted racist abuse at market staff. He was caught on CCTV stealing the designer hoodies, jackets and shirts over four visits to the department store, worth a total value of more than £1,500. Poll was jailed for 27 months. (Photo: WYP)
Carl O’Brien strangled a steward at Elland Road and tried to pass it off as “banter”. He put his hand around the woman’s throat and squeezed, she asked him to get off three times before she removed the hand herself. He was found guilty of intentional strangulation at trial and is due to be sentenced on April 30. (Photo: NW)
Luke Muscroft smothered his partner until she passed out in a brutal attack witnessed by her children. He held a pillow against the victim’s face and tried to stop her from breathing by covering her mouth with his hands. The assault left the mum-of-four with lasting health issues, while her traumatised young children say they’ve been suffering from nightmares. The judge sentenced Muscroft to 16 months’ imprisonment. Lukasz Chodnicki strangled his wife to the point where she nearly passed out before kicking her in the ribs. He was subsequently handed an 18 month sentence which was suspended for two years. He was also given 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and will have to enrol on a Building Better Relationships course. (Photo: NW)
Arsne Mbassi who pleaded guilty to swiping a Rolex watch “looked shocked” at the prospect he could be going to prison. The case was adjourned until November 28 and Mbassi was granted bail, with the condition that he is prohibited from entering the shopping centre. (Photo: NW)

Rachael Bennett, 36, and Molly Kerr, 20, were both found to have done groundwork for a scammer to break into vehicles in Leeds. In separate incidents, they lied to innocent locksmiths in attempts to get access to expensive cars. The plan was for ringleader Kyle Bucknall, 32, to drive away in the stolen vehicles. Connor Holdsworth, 25, had taken his friend's bike out for a spin and when cops pulled him over he pretended to be the bike’s owner and produced documents with his mate’s name on them.
