It's almost time to dress up and get into the spirit of Halloween, and one of the best ways to celebrate the holiday is with a spooky movie marathon.
If you're planning to have a chill session at home with a scary helping of horror films, you’re in luck because we’ve gathered some of the best spooky films to enjoy.

There's several kinds of horror films — depending on your comfort level. From gore-filled, spine-chilling flicks, to mild scares and family-friendly screams, here are a selection of movies now streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney Plus. Most have a pretty good IMDB score and are sure to keep you entertained this Halloween, no matter your age.
Netflix
Hereditary
This supernatural horror film was written and directed by Ari Aster, who has now become a household name among horror fans. This indie film follows a grieving family that is haunted by disturbing occurrences after the death of a family member.
Don’t Breathe
If you prefer less slashing and more spooks, be sure to watch the horror/thriller “Don't Breathe”. Three young thieves break into a blind man's house, but are shocked with what they find.
The Boy
An American nanny is hired by a family to take care of a life-sized doll, and is surprised when the family asks her to abide by a set of strict rules. She decides to ignore a few rules, and soon notices strange occurrences in the house.
Monster House
This one's a rather cute Halloween film that’s decidedly family friendly. It follows two kids who find out that their neighbour's house is actually a real, living monster who snatches people away.
The Silence of the Lambs
This is the only horror film to have ever won an Oscar for Best Picture, and while it’s less horror and more of a psychological thriller, watch at your own risk as it has a few graphic scenes. Clarice Starling is a freshly minted FBI agent who seeks the help of Hannibal Lecter, a psychopathic serial killer who has been imprisoned for violent murders and cannibalism, in order to to catch a serial killer.

Rosemary's Baby
“Rosemary's Baby” (1968) is among the top 10 highest rated films on IMDB, and follows young couple Rosemary and Guy, who move into a new apartment and strange things start to happen. When Rosemary becomes pregnant, she starts to worry about the safety of her unborn baby.
Midsommar
“Midsommar” follows a couple who travel to Sweden for a mid-summer festival, however the retreat soon becomes violent and bizarre as the locals start to worship a pagan cult.
Friday the 13th
This one's a cult classic, in which Jason Voorhees’ iconic story begins. A group of camp counsellors are stalked and murdered at the site of a child's drowning.
Train to Busan
If you like zombie movies, then this one is for you. It follows a zombie virus outbreak in Korea while survivors board a train from Seoul to Busan, hoping to stay safe from the zombies.
Disney Plus
Hocus Pocus
This 1993 movie is a Halloween classic that follows the Sanderson sisters — three wacky witches who are up to no good. Need we say more?
The Haunted Mansion
Based on the Disneyland attraction of the same name, “The Haunted Mansion” follows a realtor and his wife and two kids who are invited to a grand home that ends up being haunted by a bunch of spirits.
Frankenweenie
Halloween isn't complete without a Tim Burton film, right? “Frankenweenie” follows a boy whose dog passes away, so he goes about trying to bring him back to life with an experiment.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
This one classifies as a Halloween and Christmas classic, and features Jack Skellington as the king of Halloween Town. He wants to fill Santa's shoes and bring the season of the holidays to his Halloween Town, but unfortunately he ends up abducting Santa Claus.
