13 Reasons Why has promoted two key recurring characters to series regulars for the third season.

Timothy Granaderos and Brenda Strong – who play Montgomery de la Cruz and Nora Walker respectively – will be part of the main cast when the Netflix drama series returns for its next run.

Although story details surrounding season three of 13 Reasons Why have been extremely sparse so far, the stars' promotions seem to suggest that Bryce Walker will be a heavy focus.

Nora is Bryce's mother, who in the second season discovers and is appalled that her son raped Hannah Baker. Meanwhile, Montgomery terrorised many of the students at Liberty High who were testifying at Hannah's trial in an attempt to protect Bryce.

Montgomery also sodomises Tyler Down with a mop handle in a graphic scene which was hugely controversial. Tyler then planned to carry out a school shooting, but was stopped by Clay Jensen.

Granaderos tweeted his excitement at the news, posting: "Feeling very humbled today."

Elsewhere, the core eight cast members of 13 Reasons Why – Dylan Minnette (Clay), Brandon Flynn (Justin), Alisha Boe (Jessica), Justin Prentice (Bryce), Christian Navarro (Tony), Miles Heizer (Alex), Devin Druid (Tyler), and Ross Butler (Zach) – have all received major pay raises for the third season.

Filming for season 3 is currently happening right now, although there is no word on a release date other than the fact that it will be in 2019.

13 Reasons Why seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch on Netflix.
