Warning: This article contains spoilers for 13 Reasons Why season 2 episode 13 'Bye'.

13 Reasons Why star Dylan Minnette has addressed Clay Jensen's controversial decision in the second season finale, claiming that viewers are "supposed to know" that he makes the "wrong decision".

In episode 13 'Bye', Tyler Down (Devin Druid) arms himself with an assault rifle and heads to the Spring Fling dance with the intention of using his weapon.

Despite the looming threat, Minnette's character Clay urges his friends not to call the police and allow him to confront Tyler alone.

A large number of viewers expressed unhappiness at this moment, believing that the Netflix show is giving dangerous advice by having the protagonist behave in this way.

But Minnette responded to the controversy by saying that Clay is somebody who "acts on his emotions".

"I think we're supposed to know and believe that what Clay did is the wrong decision to make," he told Entertainment Tonight. "They should have locked the doors inside and called the police and let everyone know what was happening. I think we are not supposed to believe that Clay made the right decision, even though it was ultimately successful.

"We're supposed to believe that that is a decision that Clay would make because he is someone who acts on his emotions, without thinking his actions through, and really tries to take everything on himself."

The episode ended with Tyler making a getaway in Tony's car, while Clay was left holding Tyler's assault rifle as the police were closing in.
