15 best Mother's Day flowers to brighten her special day

Mother’s Day is coming up fast on 31 March but don’t panic – IndyBest has found the most beautiful bunches of flowers available for online order and UK delivery, so you don’t have to.

These splendid bouquets are guaranteed to make Mum feel loved come Mothering Sunday.

There’s something to suit all budgets, from bargains that look much more expensive than they are to luxury treats she’ll be rushing to show off.

Every brand has passed our stringent quality checks. Some have already been tried and tested by our team; others sent across a sample bouquet so we could confirm what their blooms look and smell like on arrival (no drooping stems or poxy petals here!).

To help all you last-minuters out, we’ve also included the last order date to guarantee delivery in time.

Personal gift messages can be added before paying, so you might even get away with scrimping on a card.

Of course, these pretty posies would also make fabulous gifts for partners, or yourself!

Rebel Rebel mama said: From £60, Rebel Rebel

image

It was hard to drag our eyes away from this glorious bouquet with its uplifting, just-picked-from-the-hedgerows feel. Tons of seasonal blooms in berry tones, from roses and magnolia to scabiosa and anemone, have been hand-tied together to create a floral masterpiece so stunning there may even be tears. Ours arrived bursting out of a light blue bag, with the stems in water so they did not wilt en route. Three sizes are available (£60, £85 and £110), with a medium bouquet pictured. London florist Rebel Rebel donates £5 from every order to a local homelessness charity, the Hackney Winter Night Shelter, which Mum would surely approve of. Order by midday on Friday 29 March.

Nikki Tibbles Wild at Heart eden: From £85, Nikki Tibbles Wild at Heart

image

Mums enthralled by all things vintage will be in raptures over this oh-so-feminine bouquet packed with delicate spring blooms in a range of peachy pink colours. The roses, ranunculus and stocks were in full bloom upon delivery, eliciting excited oohs and aahs when we opened the door and saw them spilling out of an elegant black bag printed with the Wild at Heart logo. The arrangement is tightly secured with brown string so it can be popped straight into a vase. Or undone and divided between two, as we had to do, because the bunch is just so big! The sweet scent quickly perfumed every corner of our living room, making this celebrity favourite a winner in the fragrance stakes. Four sizes are available ( £85, £115, £145 and £195) with the biggest size shown. Order by 4pm on Sunday 31 March.

The Magic Flower Company pretty in pink: £79.95, The Magic Flower Company

image

The big downside to gifting flowers is that they rarely last longer than a fortnight. Step up, The Magic Flower Company, a small florist based in Suffolk that makes its blooms live for a year by carefully replacing the natural sap with a non-toxic, plant-based glycerine solution and enhancing the colour of the petals with organic dyes. This showstopping bunch of candy and dark pink roses propped up by green and red shallon leaves comes in the vase shown here. Each arrangement is lovingly put together by experts with individual stems and custom bouquets also available if you want to get creative. Be sure to tell Mum not to put them in water, direct sunlight or humid rooms to keep them looking their best until next Mother’s Day. Order by 5pm on Wednesday 27 March.

Home Bargains sunny garden: From £22.99, Home Bargains

image

Before you baulk at the brand name, rest assured that it will not say Home Bargains on the box! The budget price can be your little secret, and far from a dirty one, as this 21-stem arrangement far exceeded our expectations. The irises complement the honey-scented freesias and ivory roses perfectly, and they all look just as pretty in real life as they do in the photo. They come wrapped in unfussy cream and brown patterned paper with the stems kept hydrated by moistened sponge wrap. If the roses need perking up after a few days, cut a little more off the stems and freshen up the water. Three sizes are available ( £22.99, £25.99 and £28.99), with a medium bouquet pictured. There is also the option to add a fluted glass vase for an extra fiver. Order by 4pm on Friday 29 March.

Waitrose & Partners Florist double twin stem orchid and fern planter: £45, Waitrose & Partners Florist

image

Orchid fans will squeal with delight at this vivid display of two twin stems nestled among lush green ferns, presented in a shiny navy ceramic planter. Expect at least three flowers to be open for some instant visual impact, with plenty of buds to ensure longevity. If your mum is willing to give some TLC to her orchids, they should last for up to eight weeks – far longer than your standard bouquet – and grow up to 50cm high. Bear in mind they are best kept in balmy temperatures of 17C to 23C, which will be tricky in British winter; she may wish to place it in a humid bathroom or kitchen. Still, this is an exotic, original choice from a high street supermarket. Order by 10am on Saturday 30 March.

National Gallery Turner Bouquet: £40, National Gallery

image

If your mum is into her art, she’ll be impressed with the thought behind this bunch. Prestige Flowers has designed a range of bouquets for the National Gallery, all of which relate back to one of the paintings or exhibitions on display there. Our favourite is the Turner bouquet, inspired by the flaming sunset in his famous 1839 masterpiece, The Fighting Temeraire. It features peachy pink roses, blue eryngium and royal purple trachelium, all softened beautifully by white bouvardia. Order by 4.30pm on Saturday 30 March.

If pink is your mum’s favourite colour, look no further than Moonpig’s celebratory bunch crammed with stargazer lilies, lisianthus, roses, germini and verdant salal. It all comes wrapped in frosted cellophane in a merry pink box, without the vase shown in the picture. None of our stems were damaged upon delivery and the blooms were either fully out or just starting to emerge. This luxury bunch is delivered with the flowers at least partly still in bud, which minimises the initial wow factor but offers longer-lasting joy once the celebrations are over. The price tag is hefty but you get 26 stems for your money and the postbox-red roses and bubblegum-pink germini are of premium quality. Everything comes in classy black and gold packaging, complete with a detailed flower care guide, a handwritten personal message and a complimentary box of Belgian salted caramel truffles. The verdict: Best Mother’s Day flowers

Every bouquet sparked a grin when it turned up on our doorstep but none quite so large as the arrival of Rebel Rebel’s mama said extravaganza. The naturalistic styling, inspiring colours and wafting aroma ticked all our boxes and left us wishing they never had to die.
