£150 Warm Home cost of living DWP letters being sent out to thousands
In the coming month, a wave of letters will be landing on doorsteps to inform thousands about their eligibility for the Warm Home Discount this winter. This scheme offers a one-time £150 reduction from your electricity bill.
Some eligible recipients can expect to receive a letter between October 2024 and early January 2025 via a letter that confirms their automatic qualification for the discount, or prompts them to provide additional information. Those who may need to supply more details will be instructed to reach out to the helpline by 28 February 2024 to confirm particulars.
Qualification criteria in England and Wales include people receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, or those on a low-income bracket enduring high energy costs. However, even if you don't qualify for the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, you might still be in line for the Warm Home Discount under certain August 2024 conditions: membership of your energy supplier in the scheme, receipt of specific means-tested benefits or tax credits, a high energy cost score based on your property's characteristics, and having your (or your partners) name on the electricity bill.

Beneficiaries claiming Universal Credit coupled with high energy expenses are also potential candidates. Age UK has said: "Most eligible households will receive the Warm Home Discount automatically. If you're eligible, you'll receive a letter between November and January telling you about the discount. Then, your electricity supplier will automatically apply the discount to your bill by the end of March."
"This is different from previous years when you had to claim the money from your supplier if you weren't claiming the Guarantee Credit portion of Pension Credit."
"If you haven't received a letter by mid-January and you think you're eligible, then you can contact the Warm Home Discount helpline on 0800 030 9322. The deadline for this winter will be announced later in the year. ".
