With over one billion users, all of who spend close to half an hour on the platform daily, it’s no secret that Instagram has the world hooked.
This year’s PIPAs have seen over 100,000 entries, which judges have whittled down to a shortlist of 200 – you can see a selection of 18 of these images in the gallery above.
Chair of the judges, photographer Eamonn McCabe, said in a statement: “Another extremely competitive, bumper year for the PIPAs. Winners will be announced on October 10 at a ceremony in London, and the top prize for the Instagram Photograph of the Year will win £5,000 with each of the category winners also receiving a prize of £500.
Entries will be judged across ten categories: animals, art, family, fashion, landscape, sport, travel, drone, ‘being mum’ and portrait.
Rory Scott from Photobox added: “It’s amazing how the PIPAs has captured the imagination of photography fans up and down the country and to far flung corners of Europe and beyond. The standard of photography is yet again extraordinarily high which certainly gave our esteemed panel of judges plenty to chew over.”
