These are 20 of the most liveable cities in the world
Copenhagen and Bern have been jointly crowned the best cities for Europeans living abroad, according to the Location Ratings report from ECA International.
Hailed for its high levels of clean air, good facilities, housing and low crime rate, these two cities offer the best quality of life for those living abroad.
In order to uncover where the best spots are for moving to, the report measured the quality of living conditions for Europeans abroad in over 490 locations to see how they adapted to somewhere new.
Taking the joint third spot is The Hague and Geneva, while Eindhoven and Stavanger came fifth. The study shows that the Netherlands and Switzerland really are some of best countries to live in for expats, as both had four cities in the top 20.
Closer to home, Dublin took the ninth spot, praised for its low crime rate and clean air quality. Edinburgh also made the list, but came in last. 'Dublin has become a popular hub for the expats from around the world thanks to having the benefits of a large city while also managing to avoid the negative aspects,' explains Neil Ashman, Senior Location Ratings Analyst at ECA International.
The research highlights once again that Scandinavian countries are the best for expat living. Thanks to excellent transport links, high standard of healthcare and long-term political stability, these European cities are brilliant for people looking to start a new life elsewhere.
'Pollution, crime rate and terrorism threats are among the factors that affect the liveability of major UK cities such as London, Manchester, Belfast and Glasgow,' says Neil.
'Europeans relocating for work or looking to move abroad can expect a good quality of life in many locations in Ireland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany or Norway; countries that dominate the top 20 of our rankings.'
