2017 Ford GT Designer Todd Willing Becomes Global Styling Boss
Ford announced that Todd Willing will be its new global head of design.
Willing replaces Anthony Lo, who stepped down from the position in May after three years.
Willing was the exterior head of design for the 2017 Ford GT and has contributed to a wide array of vehicles including the Fiesta and Focus.
Ford has appointed a new global head of design, Todd Willing. The move comes after Willing's predecessor, Anthony Lo, departed in May after three years at the helm. Lo himself was a replacement for Moray Callum, who retired in 2021 after seven years in the role and over two decades at Ford. Willing now steps in to lead the design direction for Ford and Lincoln vehicles across the globe.
Willing is a Ford veteran, first joining the company in 2003. He has been promoted from his position as global design director for Ford Model e, the company's electric vehicle division. Willing initially got his start in the design world through a work experience program with Ford's Australian design studio while in high school and has worked for Ford around the world in Japan, Germany, England, and the U.S. He also served as the head of the Ford Asia-Pacific studio in Melbourne, Australia.
Willing influenced the designs of an array of popular Fords over his two decades with the Dearborn-based company. He contributed to the designs of mainstream models, including the Europe-market 2007 Mondeo, the sixth-generation Fiesta, and the third-generation Focus, and also served as the exterior chief designer for the radical-looking 2017 Ford GT supercar. Willing also led global design for Ford's trucks and SUVs, running the teams that crafted vehicles like the F-150, Super Duty, Bronco, Ranger, Maverick, Expedition, and Explorer. Willing's promotion to global head of design is effective today, August 27, but it will probably be a couple of years until Willing's influence in his new role trickles out onto public roads.
