Michelle Obama shares prom throwback photo from 1982 -- Check out her dress!

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is no stranger when it comes to formalwear.

Throughout her husband Barack's time in office and beyond, the best-selling author has been known to rock the newest and classiest looks from the likes of Zac Posen, J.Crew, Balenciaga and beyond.

And thanks to a new Instagram post, we can safely say that the 56-year-old has had style and grace since her early high school years.

Obama took to Instagram on Tuesday to post a vintage shot that features her in a polka-dot dress that she wore for her high school prom in 1982:

“Throwing it back to my 1982 prom night and this pink satin, polka-dotted dress,” Obama captioned the photo.

In the photo, Obama rocks a high-slit, long sleeve dress paired with dainty gold jewelry, an effortless look that could still be considered on-trend today.

But as the caption continues on, Obama explains that the photo isn't just a fun throwback, but one tied to a cause and purpose:

"If you’re a student or teacher, join the #PromChallenge with @WhenWeAllVote and @MTV and tell us what your school is doing to register students to vote—you could get a free prom for your school! Learn more at prom.mtv.com. You can also help me spread the word by posting your prom photo with #PromChallenge.”

Though both Obamas may not be in the running for the 2020 election, the former first lady is still doing her due diligence to encourage young people to register to vote.

Obama recently shared another throwback picture the day before Valentines Day (also known as Galentine's Day) to honor the important women in her life:

"I want to shout out my girlfriends who help me stay sane and grounded through all of life’s ups and downs," she wrote.

"Whether we’re catching up over the phone, venting over a cup of coffee, or laughing it out during an 80s-themed workout, I know I can lean on these ladies—and that’s made all the difference."
