2025 Chevy Silverado EV RST Adds Steering Mode for Diagonal Moves
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST now has access to a crab-walk mode the brand calls "Sidewinder."
The mode allows all four wheels to turn in the same direction, letting the car drive diagonally.
The feature is standard on top-trim RST models, and it's speed-limited to 20 mph.
The list of similarities between the Chevy Silverado EV and the GMC Hummer EV just got a little longer. Apart from sharing a battery pack, the Silverado EV will now come equipped with "Sidewinder"—Chevy's name for diagonal driving—as a standard feature in its top RST trim. Sound familiar? That's because the Hummer EV has been crab-walking since it debuted in 2022.
Sidewinder mode allows the truck to turn all four wheels in the same direction and drive at an angle at speeds up to 20 mph. Outside of being a fun party trick, the idea is that the diagonal movement will help drivers navigate tight sections of trails or allow them to park in particularly tight spaces. Don't worry, though, you won't accidentally start driving diagonally at random because the feature needs to be turned on via the infotainment screen. The video above was recently posted on Chevy's Instagram page and shows the trick in action.
In its base format, the Silverado EV starts at $57,095 and makes 510 horsepower. When equipped with the Max Range pack, the Work Truck has an estimated driving range of up to 492 miles. The top-trim RST makes 754 horsepower and can be had with either the Extended Range pack or the 205.0-kWh Max pack. In our recent test of an RST model, it proved to be more than capable, achieving the second-best range we've ever recorded and coming second on our list of fastest-charging electric cars.
