2025 GMC Terrain SUV Spied with Acadia's Supersized Touchscreen
The 2025 GMC Terrain is getting a big makeover, and new spy photos give us a glimpse of its redesigned exterior and interior.
Along with a boxier appearance, the third-generation Terrain adopts a big vertical touchscreen and a digital gauge cluster that debuted on the 2024 GMC Acadia.
Since the Terrain shares a platform with the new 2025 Chevy Equinox, we expect them to be mechanically similar and have the same 175-hp 1.5-liter turbo four.
Earlier this year, Chevy raised the curtain on the redesigned 2025 Equinox, which simultaneously signaled that an equally new version of the GMC Terrain was also in the works. After all, GM's two compact SUVs have shared a platform since the Terrain replaced the Pontiac Torrent back in 2010. While it hasn't yet been officially revealed, our spy photographer has captured some images that provide our first look at the 2025 GMC Terrain's exterior and interior.
Bigger Screen
As the photo at the stop of this story shows, the third-generation Terrain will have a huge vertically oriented touchscreen. It looks identical to the setup that debuted on the 2024 GMC Acadia. That suggests that the Terrain's center screen—with its static HVAC controls and row of toggle switches—will measure 15.0 inches. It'll also feature the same Google-based operating system with available apps and customizable settings. The new Terrain will also have a digital gauge cluster, likely the same 11.0-inch unit as the Acadia.
Our Terrain spy photos also show a thick-rimmed, leather-wrapped steering wheel with a stalk on either side of the column (the right side should act as the gear shifter). We can't say for sure what trim level the camouflaged model is, but if it's the top-of-the-line Denali, it's interesting to note that there's no light strip on the top of the tiller that identifies GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system.
Boxier Body
Based on our spy shots, there's obviously a lot less to glean about the 2025 GMC Terrain's exterior. However, even the purposefully disorienting body wrap can't hide that the new version appears to be taller and boxier than the outgoing generation. That makes sense because GMC did the same thing with the new Acadia. In fact, we expect them to have very similar front-end designs, with the Terrain likely aping the newer C-shaped lighting elements. The spy photos also show a large grille with horizontal slats and what could be lower air intakes.
When GMC reveals the 2025 Terrain sometime later this year, we'll know a lot more about its trim levels, available features, and powertrains. Meanwhile, we're confident it'll be powered by the same 175-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that's standard on the '25 Chevy Equinox. That engine also pairs with either front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) or all-wheel drive with an eight-speed automatic. We wouldn't be surprised if the new Terrain starts between $31K–$32K and climbs above $40,000 in Denali guise, but we won't know for sure until pricing is released.
