For the first time, there is to be an early entry ballot for those eager to sign up as quickly as possible. This additional ballot was announced this week as an "exciting change".
It will be open from 10am on September 4 until noon on September 13. It's a chance to secure an early place but those who apply and are not successful will still have another opportunity to try as there will be a second ballot to come in January.
For more about the ballot see here and for full information about this year's Great North Run find a guide to Sunday's event here. Live September 8 coverage also will be broadcast live on BBC1 from 10am.
