A large number of vehicles deemed unsafe have been taken off the roads this week.

Hyndburn Police ventured out with the DVLA and Hyndburn Council to remove untaxed, abandoned and road-unworthy vehicles off the streets. The force were responding to community concerns around road safety and took vehicles that were deemed unsafe.

The operation was titled 'Bin the Bangers' and during it, 22 untaxed vehicles were removed. This ultimately freeing up valuable space in the Bridge Street area of Church.

Two Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) were also given to garages who were found to have untaxed vehicles located on public highways.

The police stated: "We know that these vehicles can be an eyesore for those who live, work and visit the area, but they can also cause real safety issues due to access.

"We will continue to address these issues but we'd like to hear from you! You can let us know about any concerns you have in your area by filling in our Lancashire Talking survey."
