24 Hours In Police Custody: What happened to Paul Burton and Nathan Turner after tower block siege
24 Hours In Police Custody is back on TV tonight (Monday, September 16) exploring the armed siege of a tower block sparked by a cold kebab. The Channel 4 show primarily follows police officers at Luton Police Station in Bedfordshire as they tackle the daily challenges that come with keeping the county safe.
In tonight's episode, first aired in December 2023, the focus moves to Bedford as officers work to resolve a 14-hour stand-off between police and two men with a high-powered air rifle in November 2022. The feature-length episode, titled 'The Siege', details how Paul Burton and Nathan Turner held a delivery driver hostage in a lift after he arrived late.
The pair, who were drunk and high on drugs, also threatened their neighbours, hurled plant pots and paint from the eighth-floor balcony, and shot at a manned police car. Viewers will get unprecedented access to the command suite as the tense incident unfolded.

Police were originally called after a man reported he'd seen a man with what looked like an AK-47 shouting he'd shoot the next person he saw in the head. Armed officers surrounded the block of flats after Burton and Turner barricaded themselves in and went live on Facebook.
What happened to Paul Burton and Nathan Turner?
Nathan Turner gave himself up after nine hours, whilst Paul Burton eventually relented at the 14-hour mark. Turner, who was 37 at the time of sentencing, was handed a 20-month jail term after admitting affray and four counts of criminal damage.
His defence said he has bipolar and had been suffering a bereavement and separation from his family. While on remand in prison, he was attacked, suffered a fractured skull, broken eye socket and fractured shoulder.
Burton, 45, was sentenced to seven years after pleading guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and two counts of possessing a firearm without a certificate. He reportedly had a history of mental health problems and drug and alcohol abuse.
Sentencing the pair at Luton Crown Court in October 2023, Judge David Farrell KC said: "It was an appalling and terrifying incident. Significant police resources were used and there was considerable distress and disturbance to residents at the block of flats.”
