Detailed plans for a new housing development on land near Peterborough have been given the green light. These will see up to 265 new homes being built east of Eyebury Road in Eye.

The proposals were first put forward in June 2019, with outline approval granted four years later. In addition to the homes, the plans also include new playing fields for the nearby Eye CofE primary school.

This phase seeked permission for the appearance, landscaping, layout and scale of the development. It includes details on the 49 two-bed homes, 107 three-beds, 109 four-bed properties, and 3m cycleway to the school extension site.

A number of residents have objected to the plans, citing the increase in traffic the development will bring. Others expressed concerns over the impact it would have on parking.

One person said: "The entire street within the village of Eye named Eyebury Road, is not fit for the level of traffic using it today, adding construction traffic and then the increased traffic of 265 dwellings. I've seen emergency service vehicles unable to pass to reach their destination due to the high volume of traffic on this road."

Another commented: "There is no lollipop lady and the pupils cannot cross the road with safety and reassurance in mind so parents drive their children. The residents around Eyebury Road, Little Close and the Crescent already have to put up with twice daily parking and with this development it will be intolerable."

The applicants, Allison Homes East, said that although there would be fewer visitor parking spaces, the large number of allocated spaces would help to balance these concerns. They added that the mix of house types would help to create a cohesive feel to the area.
