The upcoming scenes see a mysterious hooded figure pushing a petrol soaked rag through the letterbox of number 8. To make matters worse, Toyah Battersby and youngsters Hope, Ruby, Lily and Sam are trapped inside to which Nick Tilsley, Shona and Max Turner head into the inferno to save them.
Nick finds Toyah unconscious on the floor as Shona and Max head upstairs. Finding out Lily is safe, Shona finds David on the street and tells him that Max is trapped. As they head back up the path, suddenly the house explodes.
Later, one of the firefighters comes across Max’s lifeless body and as they lift Max into the ambulance a distraught David climbs in with him. Will he be okay? Meanwhile, Toyah is taken to hospital as she suffered smoke inhalation and also has a head wound.
Fire arrest
Following the explosion and over at the hospital, Shona quizzes David about the fire to which he promises her he had nothing to do with it and he was with an old mate.
Later, Max's love interest Lauren Bolton joins Shona in the waiting room and detective Kit Green confirms it was arson to which David tells him that Logan is clearly responsible for the fire due to his beef with gangster Harvey over the stolen cash. A distraught David tells Shona that it’s his fault and he wishes he’d never stolen the money.
It's not long until a new suspect is teased as Leanne Battersby heads to the hospital to see her sister Toyah. This prompts ex Nick, who left Leanne for Toyah, to accuse her of setting the fire to which she insists she's innocent. As Leanne looks for her purse in her coat pocket, she finds a box of matches...
Later in the week, Steve rounds on Leanne for making out she was at their late son Oliver’s grave when the fire broke out but Leanne admits that she can’t remember where she was because she was completely wasted. However, she remembers seeing Toyah head into number 8 and then it's a blur until she woke up in Victoria Garden with a box of matches in her pocket. When Steve advises Leanne to talk to the police, will she agree?
Also under suspicion is Abi Webster as it's revealed she had entered number 8 to confront Toyah for reporting her to social services. However, caught up in a PTSD episode, she lashed out at Toyah knocking her unconscious before fleeing the house ahead of the fire. Did she come back and start the fire to cover up the attack on Toyah?
As the week ends, David finds himself in hot water when his dodgy mate Andy comes looking for him, where it's revealed Andy served time in prison for insurance fraud. Sarah and Nick find David and angrily tell him about the visit from Andy, convinced he must have used him for his insurance scam expertise.
Later, under interview, David tells Kit that he was in Denton with Andy at the time of the fire but when Kit reveals that Andy claims not to have seen David, Kit places him under arrest... is David really responsible?
