SINGAPORE — Three persons who were trapped in a lift in Woodlands were rescued and raised to safety by a team of Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers.
On Tuesday, SCDF said in a Facebook post that it received a call for help at 5.10pm at No. 1 Woodlands Road.
Upon their arrival, SCDF officers found that a lift was stuck between the 2nd and 4th floor – it does not serve the 3rd floor – and that three persons were trapped inside it.
Rescuers from the elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were activated for the operation as power could not be restored to the lift.
“The DART rescuers set up a rescue system of pulleys and ropes on the 4th floor. This enabled two rescuers to rappel down the lift shaft, gaining access into the lift through an access hatch,” SCDF said.
Each trapped person was secured in a rescue harness and brought out of the lift using a ladder. A portable battery-operated device called the Power Ascender was then used to raise each of the trapped persons to safety.
The three trapped persons were assessed by an SCDF ambulance crew for injuries after the rescue and refused conveyance to the hospital.
