3 rare £2 coins worth 'thousands' - and you may have one in your wallet
Rare coins can fetch a hefty sum, particularly those with minting errors. In recent months, we've seen numerous treasures sell for thousands more than their face value. Just recently, a rare 1p coin with a "unique" date was auctioned off for a staggering £140,000.
It just goes to show that you never know what could be hiding in your personal collection. Now, let's talk about £2 coins. There are three specific designs which one collector believes could be worth "thousands".
TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard regularly delights his followers with updates on special finds to look out for. He has amassed 174,100 followers on the platform where he posts a video each day, reports the Mirror.
In a recent clip, he focused on three £2 coins. He stated: "Whip out those £2 coins, some of them are worth thousands." Speaking about the 2014 coin commemorating the 100th year anniversary of the First World War, he said: "The error version is missing the words 'Two Pounds' from the side."
"The 2014 coin was released nine years ago to mark 100 years since the start of WWI. It features an image of Lord Kitchener, a prominent British war figure who appeared on government propaganda posters. Only the version with the missing wording is worth £1,000+.@
At the same time, collectors are buzzing about a misprinted £2 coin that's been nicknamed the "fried egg" due to its resemblance caused by a design error which makes the middle look spilled across the outer rim. Spotting one of these in your change could bag you upwards of £600.
In another thrilling find, a 2014 coin sports a minting mishap on its face with an incorrect inscription; such a rarity might fetch around £30 or even more. The expert wrapped up his advice noting: "If you have this coin from 2016, these coins have the wrong inscription for King and country. This normally sells for around £30."
The revelation has taken social media by storm, amassing hundreds of likes and comments since it was shared this week. One enthusiast chimed in with appreciation, commenting: "Thanks for that skull one bro."
while another excitedly revealed: "I have the same one."
