Keeping your kettle clean has never been simpler.

You may assume that kettles don't require frequent cleaning. After all, they're primarily used to boil water, which should already be fairly clean, right?

However, tap water can carry mineral deposits that accumulate inside your kettle over time, leaving it in need of a scrub.

It's crucial to clean your kettle as limescale and other substances can hinder its performance. Fortunately, there's a straightforward method to keep your kettle clean and fresh-smelling simultaneously.

A cleaning enthusiast named Sophie on TikTok suggests using a simple fruit to keep your kettle gleaming - a lemon, which you can purchase from most supermarkets for approximately 30p, reports the Mirror.

Sophie demonstrated the trick with what she referred to as an "old piece of lemon", seemingly half a lemon with some of the rind grated off, possibly left over from cooking or baking. She sliced the lemon into rough pieces and dropped them into her kettle, then filled it up with water.

Next, she boiled the kettle with the lemon inside. Once done, she poured out the contents into the sink, revealing the impressively clean results to her viewers.

In the comments, Sophie mentioned that the hot lemon water will also clean and "deodorise" the drain - cleaning two things in the kitchen with a single kettle boil.

Sophie's cleaning hack took TikTok users by surprise, as many lamented the sorry state of their own kettles in need of a good scrub. Others were keen to praise the method for its pleasant smell, preferring it to the smellier technique of boiling white vinegar with water to combat limescale and grime.

One user exclaimed: "How did you know I literally looked inside my kettle today thinking 'I need to clean this' but having no idea how? " Meanwhile, another posted: "Ok TikTok is officially listening to me because I was trying to figure out the best way to clean THIS EXACT TEA KETTLE two days ago!".
