Atlanta 'Cop City' $31M Budget Approved After Hours of Public Dissent

Demonstrators against Atlanta’s so-called “Cop City” filled the atrium in Atlanta City Hall on June 5, as the city council met for what turned out to be a marathon session, at the end of which they approved funding for the police training center.

Footage by Twitter user @micahinATL shows protesters, who opposed the center, chanting in the hall.

The Atlanta City Council meeting was opened to public comment before the budget vote for the Atlanta Public Training Center, dubbed “Cop City” by protesters.

After hours of opinions from more than 350 people, the council voted in the early hours of Tuesday to adopt a $31 million budget toward the construction of the center, which is slated to be built in a forested area. Credit: @micahinATL via Storyful
