33 knives and suitcase stolen from Preston shop as man arrested

A suspected thief has been arrested after a suitcase and 33 knives were stolen from a shop in Preston.

Police were called to Fishergate Shopping Centre at around 4pm yesterday (June 10). It followed reports that the items had been stolen from TJ Hughes.

Officers said a 41-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of theft. He remains in custody for questioning.


In a statement, Lancashire Constabulary said: "We have arrested a man following a theft from a shop in Preston City Centre. We were called at around 4pm yesterday, (Monday, June 10).

"It was reported a suitcase and 33 knives had been stolen from TJ Hughes in the Fishergate Centre. A 41-year-old man from Preston was arrested nearby and is currently in custody being questioned on suspicion of theft.

"Operation Vulture is Lancashire Constabulary’s response to shoplifting across the county. The operation will see dedicated officers undertaking hotspot patrolling, increasing their visibility in targeted areas and creating strong partnerships with retailers across the county to better share intelligence, get a deeper understanding of retail crime and identify more offenders."
