April marks Earth Month, and that means focusing on ways that we can all do our part to make the world a better place. Every small action adds up, and whether it’s swapping out your plastic water bottles for a reusable one or choosing to support brands with ethical and sustainable business practices, there are more ways than ever to support the cause.

While large industries like fashion and beauty take time to respond to consumer demand, according to a report by the NPD Group, natural skincare brands are growing twice as fast as total skincare. Millennial and Gen Z shoppers are leading the charge, thanks to more conscious shopping habits and a desire for products that match their values.

With all the focus on sustainability this month, we wanted to highlight some of the beauty brands that are helping make their industry a greener space. Ahead, find five brands who are transforming the beauty world with a focus on plant-based packaging so we can all ditch plastic for good.

Each & Every

While deodorant is a part of our daily routine that usually isn’t given much thought, the team behind Each & Every’s uniquely scented deodorants have carefully considered all aspects of their star product. The brand recently launched packaging made from Brazilian sugarcane to house their deodorant, and while it’s currently only available in their bestselling Lavender and Lemon scent, they plan to transition the entire line to the fully recyclable plant-based packaging by the end of the year.

Aether Beauty

While eyeshadows typically come packed in plastic palettes, Aether Beauty is ditching convention with their innovative cardboard packaging. The first of their kind, Aether’s palettes are fully recyclable once product remnants are removed, and with every purchase made, a portion of sales goes back to environmental charities.

Meow Meow Tweet

Another skincare brand who’s reshaping the way we think about deodorant is Meow Meow Tweet, who has chosen cardboard packaging to house their product. Their stick deodorants come in both classic and baking soda-free formulations, so even the most sensitive skin can find a natural deodorant that works. Products that don’t come packed in cardboard are also environmentally friendly, and use recyclable materials like glass and aluminum instead.

Elate Cosmetics

Since 2014, this Canadian company has been transforming the beauty industry with their biodegradable packaging. Bamboo is used for everything from compacts to makeup brushes to lipstick bullets to create product exteriors, while recyclable aluminum makes up the rest. The company is also committed to producing as little waste as possible, offering refillable products that come wrapped in seed paper envelopes.

Ethique

If you’re looking for a simple way to cut down on your plastic consumption, naked bath and body products are an easy place to start. To get you started, Ethique offers a line of 100 per cent plastic free shampoos, conditioners, soaps and scrubs that come delivered in compostable paper packaging. Each one of their concentrated bars saves up to 5L of water, so not only are you diverting waste from landfills, you’re also protecting our water supply too.
