When it comes to buying your annual winter pair of boots, the temptation is to filter price ‘low to high’ on Net-a-Porter or toddle off to Topshop, but sitting somewhere between the high end designer and high street brands are a bevy of boutique bootmakers well worth a gander.

They're making shoes that are infinitely more aesthetically interesting than anything you’ll find on the high street and as good quality as most household name designers, minus the price tag.

Whether you’re looking for an of-the-minute cowboy style or something more classic, these are the brands that fashion girls the world over are loving right now.

Founded in 2015 by Luisa Krogmann and Constantin Langholz-Baikousis, Berlin-based aeyde exploded on the street style scene this season, with everyone from Lucy Williams to Blanca Miro seen sporting their strappy sandals and cowboy boots. All the shoes are crafted in Italy from the finest calf leather and each comes with a hand sewn signature stitch; a symbol of the brand’s commitment to superior craftsmanship. And the quality shows - as someone who spent the whole of Paris Fashion Week pacing the streets in their Leandra style, I can attest to their supreme comfyness.

Good quality, comfortable and super chic footwear at prices starting from £250? That’s what I’d call a bootie unicorn.

Currently in its sixth season, Neous is a brand born from a ten-year friendship between fashion stylist Vanissa Antonious (ex-Harper’s Bazaar Australia and Harper’s Bazaar UK) and Alan Buanne, a trained cordwainer who’s designed footwear for Peter Pilotto, House of Holland and Nicholas Kirkwood. The brand’s Bauhaus-inspired bold, minimalist designs are constructed in supple calfskin and meltingly soft suecde, and come on Italian lasts and hand-carved wooden block heels. Simple yet striking, these boots are as comfortable as they are chic.

Like your shoes chic but noticeable? Look no further than cult cordwainers ByFar.

The Bulgarian brand only launched back in 2016 but its come a long way in a short time, and already boasts high-profile fans like Miroslava Duma, Aimee Song and the Haim sisters. All their styles, which are handmade in a family-run factor in Italy, err on the right side of vintage-looking, and the colourways and heel heights make them versatile enough to feel like special everyday shoes. This summer ByFar became the go-to brand for Carrie Bradshaw-inspired, square-toed sandals and their winter offering is no less tempting, with low-heeled Victoriana lace up and silky sock boots aplenty.

Turkish born Dora Teymur launched his namesake brand, Dorateymur, in 2012 while studying Accessory and Footwear design at Cordwainers School at the London College of Fashion. His contemporary, sculptural shoes, all handcrafted in Portugal, are instantly recognisable for their dandyish Louis XVI-esque aesthetic and his Nizipi boots, with their trademark silver ring adornment, have become a style staple for fashion girls in the know.

Fans of the brand will be pleased to hear that for autumn he’s added a capsule collection of handbags to the range.
