This cave is deeper than the Eiffel Tower and probably the most beautiful hole on Earth
Giant holes can be a dirty, dark eyesore – but this one is anything but that.
In fact, it is probably fair to say that this 1,420ft deep hole is one of the most beautiful caves on the whole planet.
The cave – named the Great Pit – is deeper than France’s Eiffel Tower and is one of the largest vertical caves ever discovered in the world.

It is so deep that it took covers exploring it a staggering 90 minutes to reach the bottom – and THREE HOURS to climb back out again.
Scientists say the space – deep in northern Spain’s Porracolina mountain – was discovered by local cavers when they found a small sinkhole with a current of fresh water coming from it.
Cave expert Luisiano Sedano revealed that cavers have spent most of the year exploring and mapping the new pit.
He explained that it is sited beside a vertical cave called Los Pasiegos, which at 346 metres deep is now Spain’s second deepest pit ever discovered.
The team of cavers, which included Mr Sedano and Adrian Fernandez, had to struggle against a constant flow of water as they inches down the cave wall, installing safety anchors as they went.
Sedano described the discovery as “something exceptional” and “a gift”, while local officials say the space could now rank in the world’s top ten of vertical caves.
The cave’s formal name will be Gran Pozo MTDE, in honour of a local climbing firm that supplied all the caving equipment for the descent.
