Now that summer's officially here, we Brits seem to be fully embracing Pimm's o'clock – except for one small exception. It looks like many savvy shoppers are opting for a cheaper alternative.

Sales of budget supermarket Aldi's Austin's Summer Punch have doubled during the recent heatwave, The Sun reports. And with Wimbledon due to start on 3 July, we have a feeling that trend might just continue...

Described as a "classic summer punch with a fruity, spice flavour, delicious hints of citrus fruits and a velvety soft finish", at £6.99 it's more than half the price of Pimm's, which retails at £15 per litre.

Of course, you'd better hotfoot it to Aldi ASAP if you want to get your hands on a bottle, because the retailer is expecting a "rush".

Tony Baines, Aldi's joint managing director of corporate buying, told The Sun: "As we enjoy our hottest June in over two decades our stores are prepared for another rush on sales this weekend."

Basically, if you're intending to enjoy the ultimate summer tipple on a budget this weekend, you'll have to race us to the checkout…
