Casualty spoilers follow.

Tonight's Casualty episode was another game-changer, as Jacob Masters had a terrifying brush with death.

The high-stakes scenes saw Jacob targeted by an unstable Roy, who, after a tense half-an-hour, died by detonating a bomb outside the ED.

Thankfully, Jacob was able to get away just in time, but his traumatic ordeal has left us with a batch of new questions about what will happen next...

1. What now for Jacob?

Having been moments away from death, it's clear that Jacob's life is never going to be the same again.

Unsurprisingly, tonight's episode marks a major turning point in Jacob's journey as he begins to reevaluate what he actually wants his future to look like. And sadly, it may no longer involve Connie (more on that to come!).

Speaking to Digital Spy, Charles Venn, who plays Jacob, said: "It does have an impact on Jacob in the sense that life is short – Covid reminded him of that and now this situation with Roy. He is going to view it as a second or even third chance – what do you do with something like that?

"He begins to entertain the idea of seeing Tina, somebody who doesn't seem to have the same commitment issues as Connie, who actually wants to let him in and is open to receiving a sense of intimacy. That is what Jacob feels he needs now – he can't deal with this uncertainty all the time. Life is too short. This is going to have a big effect on Jacob for sure."

2. Has Connie missed her chance?

Despite being visibly distressed by Jacob's brush with death, Connie still couldn't bring herself to tell him how she really felt in the aftermath.

As Connie comforted a traumatised Jacob, she did attempt to be straight about her feelings for him – only to be interrupted by Robyn, who wanted to take him to the pub.

Connie then made another futile attempt to reconcile with Jacob, but seemingly missed her chance as his attention had already turned to Tina by this point. Has Connie missed her final chance?

3. Will we be seeing more of Tina?

It might not be the news that Jonnie shippers wanted to hear but it looks like Tina is sticking around for the foreseeable.

Tonight's episode kicked off the next big chapter in Jacob's on-off story with Connie, as his near-death experience prompted him to realise that Tina could be a more suitable match for him.

As much as we like kind-hearted Tina, this is yet another blow for the fans holding out hope for Connie and Jacob to eventually find their way back to each other.

Teasing a possible romance for Jacob and Tina, Charles said: "There is a spark and a bit of chemistry there. But is it something that would go beyond a cheeky kiss? Who knows. I don't actually know if that is where Jacob's mind is at this stage.

"He's just come out of something really intense in his on-off relationship with Connie to dive straight into another one. I'm not sure if that's Jacob's intention. Work is his priority and there is so much going on in his life. I'm not sure if the thing with Tina is something that will develop or not - we will have to wait and see."

4. Is there any hope left for #Jonnie?

But the the biggest question of all after tonight's episode – where does this leave Connie and Jacob? Are they over for good or is there still a glimmer of hope on the horizon?

Thankfully, it could be the latter, with Charles teasing more twists and turns in Connie and Jacob's love story throughout this series.

There is is also the small matter of Connie's daughter Grace returning next month, and she could be instrumental in Connie and Jacob's possible reunion dance. So, there could be light at the end of the tunnel, but it's likely to be a long way off.

5. Is this a turning point for Marty?

Moving away from Jacob and Connie's dramas, tonight's episode also marked a major turning point for Marty. Not only did Marty heroically agree to stay behind with his patient, but he also managed to pull off a tricky procedure solo – with the surprise help of his father Graham.

Despite the palpable tension between the pair at the start of tonight's episode, Marty finally got the acceptance he so desperately needed from Graham, just in time for his unexpected new story landing later in the series.

Marty is also about to become embroiled in Lev's ongoing story when he offers the paramedic some much needed support next week. Which brings us nicely onto our final question...

As the dust settles following tonight's dramatic episode, fans can look forward to more big moments next week, which switches focus back to Fenisha and Faith's ongoing stories.

It's crunch time for Fenisha when Jan discovers that she's eight months pregnant, while Lev fights for his marriage to Faith – but she could have other ideas.

Check back here in the morning for a full spoiler breakdown on next week's episode.

Casualty continues on Saturday, February 6 on BBC One.
