6 stylish ways hotels are celebrating the King's Coronation
King Charles III's Coronation is fast approaching and if you're looking for ways in which to celebrate the occasion, these are some of the hotels embracing the festivities. There are plenty of themed afternoon teas, of course, but also shopping trips to London’s finest Royal Warrant holders and a twilight tour of the Tower of London.
One hotel is even hosting Coronation dinners inspired by King Charles' favourite food. Read on for the wonderful ways you can celebrate the momentous occasion with a royal-inspired staycation this spring...
JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London
At JW Marriott’s Grosvenor House on prestigious Park Lane in London, the Carolean era is being welcomed by an afternoon tea (available from 3 April) that celebrates the best of the British Isles, in a nod to King Charles’ focus on provenance. You’ll be able to enjoy homegrown Ridgeway sparkling wine, Aberdeen Angus and Burford Brown sandwiches, Irish apple cake and English rose jelly, all with a view of Hyde Park.
The hotel itself has a long-standing seal of royal approval, having hosted a Coronation Ball for King George VI in 1937 and a Ladies’ Night for Queen Elizabeth II during her Coronation year.
Dukes, London
Dukes in St James’s has a stately setting, just off Piccadilly and on the edge of Green Park, with plenty of Royal Warrant holders sharing the neighbourhood. The area is also home to such esteemed addresses as Hatchard’s, Fortnum & Mason and the Burlington Arcade. And at this regal residence, you’ll be able to try Dukes’ legendary martini, made famous by Ian Fleming himself.
Its King’s Walk package showcases the refined area’s many Royal Warrant holders, giving guests by-appointment-only access to Lock & Co Hatters, Berry Bros & Rudd, Anderson & Sheppard tailors and more. The package also includes a fit-for-a-king breakfast of Exmoor salted caviar with a glass of champagne, a cream tea (served on fine china, of course) and a four-course dinner at the hotel’s GBR restaurant.
Cliveden House, Buckinghamshire
Cliveden doesn’t need a Coronation to feel regal, but things will be especially grand this spring. The Dining Room’s garden-themed afternoon tea will feature sweet treats inspired by the flowers that grow in the King’s gardens, and savoury components made using produce from Sandringham’s farm.
Expect to indulge on special creations such as a Buckingham honey and cheddar eclair, and white chocolate bavarois with candied rose.
Hotel Cafe Royal, London
This hallowed hotel just off Regent Street in central London has hosted several soirées over the years, so it’s fitting that it’s marking the Coronation with enthusiasm. Guests in residence at Hotel Cafe Royal over the coming months will be able to book extras such as the Crown Jewels Experience: a transfer by limousine to the Tower of London for a guided tour and peek of the Crown Jewels at dusk.
Or sign up for the King Charles III Experience and spend the day with a royal expert who will take you to various London landmarks, concluding with afternoon tea in the hotel’s opulent Grill Room.
Bovey Castle, Devon
In Devon, the 275-acre Bovey Castle estate is hosting various royal-related activities to welcome the new King, over the Coronation weekend and throughout the month of May.
From afternoon tea with a red, white and blue palette added to the patisserie, to an off-road adventure in a Land Rover through the wild Dartmoor countryside, accompanied by a team of the castle’s resident conservationists, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the Coronation on a country escape in Devon.
Hyatt Regency Churchill, London
Hyatt Regency Churchill’s Sleep Like A King package (available for stays from 1 to 10 May) ensures guests are given the royal treatment from arrival, with check-in taking place over complimentary drinks and snacks in the lounge.
After cocktails out on the terrace, you’ll be able to enjoy the special Coronation dinner, the menu for which has been inspired by some of King Charles’ favourite food.
