Selfless man gives his jacket to dog left on his own in the snow

Heartwarming footage shows the moment that a man gave his jacket to a shivering dog who was stranded in snowy conditions.

In the CCTV footage, recorded in the north-eastern Turkish municipality of Giresun, the dog is seen helplessly cowering by itself, surrounded by snow covered pavements.

But only moments later, a mysterious man is seen giving the dog some food, before selflessly removing his own coat to keep the animal warm.

The incredible act of kindness was initially spotted by a security worker who was trawling through camera footage after a recent theft and subsequently opted to post it online.

After the video went viral, a campaign to track him down proved successful – with the mystery man revealed as Bülent Kalpakçıoğlu, a local municipal worker.

Describing his selfless act, he told The Dodo: ‘If I did not give my jacket, it would have eaten at my conscience. While we are sitting warm at home, they are outside in the cold.’

He has also been rewarded with a special certificate by town mayor Kerim Aksu.

Mr Aksu said: ‘With this action, he gave a lesson in humanity. Animals are our friends. We love people, we love our city, we love all living things that are an integral part of us and our city.’
