We're loud and proud about our obsession with the royals, especially when it comes to their beauty routines (which are usually drip-fed to us by the esteemed royal glam squad).

And when they go quiet on us, we just study the girls' subtle-yet-stunning hair tweaks instead. Kate Middleton's halo highlights and Rachel-from-Friends blow dry. Meghan Markle's glossy mermaid waves and un-royal side pony. We live for their same-but-different 'dos...

But the thing we're most intrigued about, is what they choose to wear day-to-day when they have their pick of all the beauty products in the world. We know some of Meghan's favourite beauty products following a chat with Lydia Sellers, the makeup artist solely responsible for her make-up for two years before she moved to the UK to be with Prince Harry. We also know that Kate Middleton's incredible hair is down to a £10 hair tool.

Well, there's one go-to item of make-up that didn't start with the modern-day royals, but the queen herself. Queen Elizabeth (who is known for her dislike of bright nail polish), requested a bottle of Essie Nail Polish in Ballet Slipper, £7.99 through her hairdresser back in 1989, according to Glamour magazine.

Kate Middleton wore a very similar Essie shade (Allure) for her wedding day, and Princess Beatrice is rumoured to have worn the same pale pink colour as her grandmother for her big day. Cute.

People assumed Meghan had opted for the same polish when her wedding day came around, but it has since been revealed she went for an identical shade in a different brand.

"We're incredibly proud that the Queen and Kate Middleton have enjoyed our products over the years," said an Essie spokesperson back in 2017. "Ballet Slippers is by far one of our most popular shades, and it’s great to see it has a loyal following amongst all."

Fabulous taste in nail polish, Ma'am...
