I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! returned to our screens for its 19th series on Sunday night with a new batch of famous faces ready to throw themselves into jungle life.

But while so much of what they'll experience over the coming weeks will be familiar to both the campmates and us at home having watched the show for years, there is a handful of differences.

Here's everything that's changed since series one.

1. Now we're cooking with gas

For the fist time in the show's history, the campmates are cooking with gas rather than over an open fire.

This is because New South Wales and Queensland are currently being ravaged by bushfires – reportedly within 30km of the main camps – and show bosses didn't want to take any risks.

"We are in constant contact with the NSW (New South Wales) fire brigade and are closely monitoring the situation," the show told the Evening Standard.

"We currently have no cause for concern. The health and safety of all our production crew and celebrities are of the utmost importance."

2. Kiosk Keith is no more

The OG I'm a Celeb Outback Shack shopkeeper, real name Raymond Grant, first appeared back in 2013. But during the 2017 series, he mysteriously disappeared.

Fans quickly noticed and Ant and Dec were forced to address the situation, announcing that Keith was taking some time off because he was feeling a bit off colour. But he didn't return and Kiosk Kath was brought in to handle his duties.

The truth, it later emerged, was much more serious.

Grant had been sacked after allegations arose of inappropriate behaviour towards a female member of the I'm a Celeb bus crew.

"Ray is no longer under contract on the show. There are no plans for him to return this year," said ITV said in a statement.

Kiosk Kev has now taken up the mantle.

3. A summer air date?

The show hasn't always kicked off in November. Series one arrived in August (can you imagine?), two in April and three in January 2004, wrapping up in February that year.

It was also in 2004 when it was decided that the series should air in November, which makes that the only year I'm a Celeb has aired twice.

4. Bucktucker trial shake-up

It's been more than 17 years since I'm a Celebrity first hit screens, so naturally the public mood has shifted over time, which we assume is the reason behind one of the show's biggest changes to date.

In previous years, numerous campmates have had the unenviable job of munching on live bugs – The Only Way Is Essex's Ferne McCann ate a live water spider on the show, which received a barrage of complaints from viewers.

And clearly those criticisms have been heard because the eating of live critters is no longer a part of the show.

But the celebs will still have the opportunity to eat some dead bugs (yum) and have everything from worms to cockroaches chucked all over them.

5. Deodorant was originally forbidden

According to reports, deodorant was banned in series one and, staggeringly, there wasn't even a shower.

Apparently, the camera crew were so concerned about the smell that they complained to show bosses and the rules were changed.

6. Location change

Not that any of us would ever have noticed, but series one of the show was based at a smaller camp at King Ranch near Tully, Queensland.

But from series two onwards, the action has taken place around Springbrook National Park, near Murwillumbah, New South Wales.

7. John Lydon doing a John Lydon

Before the Sex Pistols' John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten, joined the show in series three, the show played out live with no adjustments from people behind the scenes. But in typically Rotten fashion, he said, "You f**king c**ts," after not being voted off the show, leading to an immediate apology from Dec.

To stop that from ever happening again, the show is still broadcast live during the eviction announcements, but a five-second delay has been put in place so the editors can get ahead of any unwanted moments.

I'm a Celebrity airs nightly on ITV, with Extra Camp airing afterwards on ITV2.
