Yahoo News 'Vampire Diaries' Star Nina Dobrev Says She "Despised" Paul Wesley and My Stelena Heart Is Broken
Whether you know her as Elena Gilbert from The Vampire Diaries, Mia from Degrassi: The Next Generation or Clem in CBS' show Fam, Nina Dobrev has been taking over screens for the past couple years with her different roles. And we're so not mad about it.

Apparently, she and Paul Wesley didn't get along at first. The chemistry between Stefan and Elena is palpable in the show, but apparently the two weren't fans of each other when the cameras were off. Nina went on the Directionally Challenged podcast where she got real AF about her time on TVD and her early feelings towards one of her co-stars. “Paul and I didn’t get along at the beginning of the show. I respected Paul Wesley, but I didn’t like Paul Wesley," she said. “Everyone thought that we had such good chemistry. I realize now that there’s a fine line between love and hate, and we despised each other so much that it read as love but...” DAMN. That's no joke. “We really just didn’t get along the first five months of shooting," she said.
But she did go on to say that the chill between them eventually wore off: “We ended up getting to a good place and it was fine. Of everyone, I think I probably see him the most and hang out with him the most. We’re probably the closest. We hang out a lot. We’re really good friends. I love his wife. It’s so funny how time changes everything because I never thought he would be one of my best friends.”
She was born in Bulgaria. She was born in Sofia, Bulgaria and lived there until she was two years old. Her family later moved to Toronto, Canada, where she was raised.
Nina currently lives in the U.S. She's an L.A. homeowner.
Her name isn't actually Nina Dobrev. Her full name is Nikolina Konstantinova Dobreva.
Her first major role was on Degrassi. Nina joined the show during its 6th season as Mia. She stayed 3 seasons until her character decided to move to Paris.
She went to college, but dropped out before finishing. Nina was studying sociology at Ryerson University in Toronto, until she decided to continue to act.
The Vampire Diaries was her first pilot audition. A lot of actors end up auditioning for multiple pilots before they score their own TV show. The Vampire Diaries got picked up by The CW, so she didn't have to audition for other shows.
She's still super close to her TVD coster Paul Wesley. The two of them have stayed close since the show ended and he even went to visit her on the set of her new TV show, Fam.

She was scared to do her new show. She revealed to TVLine that Fam is so different than anything else she's done, which is the reason why she originally didn't want to do it. "It was also scary, which only made me want to do it more. Anything that’s challenging and scares the s–t out of me is exciting."
