Live TV is a tricky business, as The X Factor knows all too well.

Past series have been subject to more blunders than we can shake a stick at, but that's just one of the reasons we get sucked in each and every time.

Here are just a few of the most talked-about moments gone wrong.

1. That time Sharon Osbourne forgot her own act's name

Saara Aalto made it through to the final in the thirteenth series, just losing out to winner Matt Terry, but that didn't stop her mentor from fluffing one of her introductions.

Whilst welcoming her to the stage during one of the live shows, Sharon could be seen stalling – even whispering something that sounded suspiciously like "What's her name?" under her breath – before finally getting her name right. Phew.

2. Simon Cowell almost sent through a "nightmare" act

Pretty Boy Karma, twins by the name of Phillip and Achilles who looked suspiciously like Justin Bieber, failed to impress in auditions.

Simon seemed horrified when he incorrectly told them that they had received four 'yeses' when, in fact, they'd been given a resounding 'no' by all of the judges.

"What am I saying?! That literally is a nightmare," he quipped, correcting himself. Awkward.

3. When Dermot O'Leary unofficially revealed the categories

Rewind back to 2016, and the X Factor host gave away some pretty big spoilers.

During a chat with Xtra Factor's Rylan Clark-Neal and Matt Edmondson on the Saturday night spin-off, he let slip the pairing of judges and categories.

Unfortunately for him, the official announcement wasn't due to be made until a little while later. But fans were happy to get the heads up.

4. Honey G and her failed attempt at a power slide

How this self-proclaimed rapper made it through to the live shows, we'll never know.

During one celebratory moment (having clawed her way through another week), the novelty act fell flat. Literally.

And so, a GIF was born.

5. When technical problems took over the show

Poor Caroline Flack and Olly Murs bore the brunt of technical issues.

During one particularly painful time, when the wrong VT was shown, the live audience booed and Caroline was forced to try and take back control of the situation, apologising on air for the mistake.

Taking to Twitter after the show, she addressed some of the criticism by telling viewers that it's all part and parcel of "the fun bits of live TV..."

6. When Olly Murs prematurely told a contestant she was going home

Singer-turned-presenter Olly made a blunder when he told Monica Michaels that she was out of the competition, when the judges had actually gone to deadlock.

Adding to the awkwardness, the final result actually did mean that Michaels was the one to be sent packing, leaving viewers believing that the whole thing had been a fix.

Of course, ITV denied the claims and stood by the popular presenter. It happens to the best of us, Olly.

7. The time that stage invaders caused a lot of confusion

Honey G was left pretty shaken when a group of unknowns appeared on the stage with her during a live performance.

The judges and the audience were understandably shocked by the presence of uninvited guests.

Simon said at the time: "I thought that was part of the act, I was quite worried."
