We've already tackled episodes banned from major TV shows and in kids' TV, but there are also shows that had episodes delayed for reason that leave you scratching your head.

Tragic real-life events can sometimes rightly delay shows for sensitivity reasons, yet there are just as many bizarre reasons behind your favourite show not getting to air a certain episode or having to delay the start of the new season entirely.

We've rounded up seven of the weirdest for your reading pleasure.

1. Star Trek: Discovery – Costumes!

Co-showrunner Aaron Harberts was so determined to get Star Trek: Discovery right that the painstaking detail that went into the show's costumes delayed the launch.

"We flew a costume designer to Switzerland to pick up the fabric for the Starfleet uniforms. Several items on our uniforms are 3D printed. Some of our sets can take over six weeks to make. CBS has given us the time and the money to make something the fans will find worthwhile," he explained.

2. Eggheads – Politics!

Back in 2010, an episode of Eggheads featuring a team including members of the Torbay Conservative Club Quiz League was postponed as it would have aired too close to the general election.

It was due to air following a party political broadcast from the Conservatives, but was replaced by a celebrity edition, with a BBC spokesperson saying it was "in line with guidelines" that the episode had to be delayed until after the election.

3. Game of Thrones – Weather!

It pales in comparison to how long we have to wait for season eight, but season seven of Game of Thrones was also delayed by showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss so they could get the appropriate weather.

"We're starting a bit later because at the end of this season, 'Winter is here' – and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes any more. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot," they said.

4. The Great British Bake Off – Olympics!

The final-ever series of The Great British Bake Off was reportedly delayed by the BBC to avoid a clash with the Rio 2016 Olympics, with a launch date a few weeks after the typical start of the show.

Given that the BBC never officially commented on the situation, this could have just been that the broadcaster had no room for Bake Off, as the power of Mary Berry would surely win out over Mo Farah's feats.

5. Body of Proof – Obama!

ABC's medical drama Body of Proof had its season three premiere pushed back two weeks and it was all President Obama's fault.

The delay was apparently to ensure that the second episode of the season would not be affected by his State of the Union address, meaning that the show could run its third season uninterrupted by such things as politics.

6. South Park – Power!

South Park's rapid production schedule came unstuck for the first time in the show's history in 2013 after its studio experienced a three-hour power cut, leaving the team unable to complete 'Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers' in time for it to air.

Co-creator Trey Parker noted: "It sucks to miss an air date but after all these years of tempting fate by delivering the show last minute, I guess it was bound to happen."

7. Trust – Cinema!

Danny Boyle's new show Trust was scheduled to launch on FX in the US in January 2018, but the broadcaster has delayed the show until March 25 and reportedly it was because of the similarities to All the Money in the World, still in cinemas.

Both Boyle's show and Ridley Scott's movie centre on the 1973 kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, with Donald Sutherland taking on the role of J Paul Getty in the show, following in Christopher Plummer's now-infamous footsteps.
