We commend any cast member who was able to survive more than one episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Why anyone would want to live in Sunnydale is beyond us.

While we all remember and love Buffy and her fellow Scoobies, there are plenty of characters played by future stars that you might have totally forgotten ever appeared in Joss Whedon's classic series.

Here are a handful of huge actors who had little cameos in the show over the years:

1. Wentworth Miller

Long before he became the brooding breakout-king in Prison Break, Wentworth had a one-off appearance as a generic jock. He played Gage Petronzi, a member of the Sunnydale High Swim Team who is turned into a Gill Monster, in 'Go Fish'.

This was actually his first on-screen role. Watch the clip above to hear a hilarious line.

2. Ashanti

R&B singer Ashanti featured in the seventh season episode 'First Date', as a demon named Lissa. She attempted to use Xander as part of her ritual sacrifice by bleeding him over the Seal of Danzalthar, as you do.

She ended up being decapitated by Buffy. Ouch. The episode aired less than a year after her debut album.

3. Pedro Pascal

We all fell in love with him as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones (before The Mountain broke all our hearts), and were slightly terrified of him in Narcos, but he looked a lot less rugged back when he appeared in Buffy.

Back when he was being credited as Pedro Balmaceda, he featured in the season 4 episode 'The Freshman', as UC Sunnydale student Eddie. Buffy met him one night at college, but he was sadly kidnapped and turned into a vampire. Later, in a rather heartbreaking scene, Buffy is forced to stake him. When will Pedro catch a break?

4. Michael Cudlitz

He's best known now for playing cuddly badass Abraham in The Walking Dead, but one of his first roles was as an undead high school student named Bob in the third season episode 'The Zeppo'.

He ended up being crushed to death – or back to death, even – by a vending machine pushed by Xander. And he looked pretty similar to how he did after Negan finished with him.

5. Kal Penn

Kal found fame thanks to the likes of House and the Harold and Kumar movies, but he had a small role in Buffy in the season 4 episode 'Beer Bad' (often noted as one of the worst Buffy episodes ever, sorry Kal).

In the episode, he and his college pals befriended Buffy at the local pub, and the bartender served them beer tainted by a spell which turned them all primal. It didn't last long.

Kal also popped up in one episode of spin-off Angel as Brain Man.

6. Amy Adams

She's now a multi-Oscar nominated actress, appearing in the likes of Arrival, Enchanted and Man of Steel. But one of her very first on-screen roles was in the season 5 episode 'Family'.

Amy's character wasn't one of the nicest people in the series, and that's saying something for a show involving demons and vampires.

She played Tara's extremely traditional cousin Beth, who came to Sunnydale with Tara's father and brother to try to persuade her to return home, but she refused.

7. Rachel Bilson

Earlier in the same year that she found fame as Summer Roberts in The OC, Rachel featured in one episode of Buffy as a potential Slayer named Colleen.

In the season 5 episode 'Dirty Girls', Rachel appeared very briefly as one of the new Slayer candidates, and had a cameo in Xander's threesome dream, the dirty old dog.

8. Riki Lindhome

You'll recognise her now for playing Sheldon's stalker Ramona in The Big Bang Theory and her comedy folk duo Garfunkel and Oates, but Riki had a very tiny role in a season 7 episode of Buffy.

Appearing in 'Him', she had a one-off appearance as cheerleader Cheryl. She later reunited with Joss Whedon for his 2012 adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing.
