Next week on Holby City, Essie makes a difficult decision, Fletch reveals some sad news and Jac fights for Darwin.

1. Essie puts on a brave face
Essie continues to act as normal as she continues her treatment next week, determined to work through the gruelling side-effects.
Despite her struggles, Essie is desperate to persevere with her shift as normal, brushing off concerns from her colleagues – especially Fletch and Sacha – who are worried that she needs to slow down and rest.
2. Sacha and Essie have a devastating row
Essie's relationship with Sacha will be on the first casualties of her ordeal next week, as they struggle to find a through her illness together.
When Sacha confronts Essie over her refusal to take some time off, they have an explosive argument that leaves them both devastated.
As Essie admits that she's contemplating stopping chemotherapy – and instead making the most of the time she has left – a distraught Sacha accuses her of being selfish by failing to put up a proper fight. Can they couple find a way through?
3. Fletch reveals his own diagnosis
After a difficult say, Essie finally opens up to Fletch – who is facing a difficult time of his own. Unable to hide his own secret for much longer, Fletch tells Essie that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and needs a further scan to find out if it's spread.
Fletch goes on to explain to Essie that he has been suffering with troubling symptoms for a while now and his prognosis isn't good at all.
Sadly, but not wholly surprisingly, Fletch's plight knocks down Essie's walls and she ends up crumbling – finally admitting her fears of what her own future is going to look like.
4. Guy feels the pressure
Guy feels the pressure on his first day back at the hospital when his infamous past is dredged up already.
Guy is left excited when a big case offers him the chance to prove all his doubters wrong, but a mistrustful Ric is reluctant to let him operate – and accuses Max of letting her heart rule her head.
Unfortunately, Guy's reputation proceeds him just moments before the operation, but can he prove everyone that he's a changed man?
5. Max's son Louis joins the team
We were fairly certain that we hadn't seen the last of Max's son Louis, and sure enough, he will be popping up again in next week's episodes. And this time, it looks like he's here to stay.
Louis has landed a job at the hospital as part of Fletch's new funding development, in a twist that rocks his mum Max to the core. Cab they resolve their differences or is it too late?
6. Jac is on a mission
After losing out on the Kestrel contract, Jac is hungry to prove to Max that Darwin is still the best ward for it.
Having blurred the boundaries with Kian last week, Jac grows concerned that her attraction to him could be an unnecessary distraction. Is their romance over before it's even begun?
7. Kian's got a secret
Jac isn't the only person keeping Kian on his toes – as he's been harbouring a rather big secret.
As a mysterious face turns up at the hospital, Kian's worlds could be about to collide. But who is it and what's going on?
8. Essie makes a big decision
Following her heart to heart with Fletch, a struggling Essie finally reaches a big decision about her treatment.
With Fletch insisting that she follows her own advice and fights the illness with him, what will Essie ultimately decide?
