Whether date night's are sacred in your relationship or you just like to make the most of a sporadic free evening whenever you can, there's no denying that quality, alone-time has taken on a different meaning during lockdown.

However, just because many of us are now spending much more time than usual with our partners (read: 24-hours a day), that doesn't mean that we shouldn't use Valentine's Day to really carve out some quality time together and make sure the other feels loved and appreciated.

Watching the news, heating up leftovers and then reading in bed doesn't have quite the same romantic ring to it as heading out for an indulgent V-Day meal, but that doesn't mean you can't heat things up a little from the comfort of your own home.

An indoor date night is still a valuable way of carving out some quality time with your significant other — something that might seem in particularly short supply if you're currently homeschooling — and giving yourselves a bit of a break from the chores and routines of daily lives.

So, to give us all a bit of a nudge in the direction of romance this Valentine's Day, we've come up with eight indoor date night ideas that will definitely see the flame of your relationship burning stronger than ever.

Oh, and don't forget to order the card — from the cheesy to the classy, we've rounded up our favourite V-Day cards.

Make cocktails together

A cocktail making class is a fun date by anyone's standards, and just because you're at home doesn't mean you can't replicate the enjoyment of creating, trying and tasting each other's drinks.

Invest in a cocktail making kit if you're not sure where to start, otherwise simply get out everything you have, slice up some lemons and get creative.

Ready, Steady, Cook

Though you can't go out for a meal, you can certainly cook up something pretty special at home.

And why not add an extra fun element by dividing the meal up so that one person cooks the starter and the other does the main, but here's the twist, you choose the ingredients the other person has to cook with.

Create your own bookshop

One of our favourite dates is to go to a bookshop, not only to browse their books, but to sit in the café to read them.

You can re-create this experience at home by each buying a couple of magazines, or swapping books, beforehand and then making your own lattes or hot chocolates (or wine).

Settle down into your comfiest chairs, sip on your drinks, read your mags, and share the interesting tidbits you come across with your significant other.

Do a puzzle together

Doing a puzzle together is a nice relaxing activity that helps you chill out and have good conversation. Pick a puzzle you can finish that evening — something like 200-300 pieces.

Have an indoor picnic

Who says you can't have a picnic just because you can't go outside?

An indoor picnic can be even more fun because it isn't weather-dependant, it doesn't get cold and you don't need to worry about the bugs!

Lay a blanket down in your home, set candles out around it and tuck into a spread of 'picky bits' (as my mother calls them) on the floor.

That way you're in the perfect position for some after-dinner snogging, too!

Take a bath together

Plenty of people have an ample tub, or even a bathroom Jacuzzi, that they never ever use; we usually just rely on the efficiency of our shower.

Take a break from the routine, slow things down, and get romantic by lighting up some candles and soaking in a relaxing bubble bath together.

We recommend putting some music on, bringing a bottle of wine to the tub and using some of those bath essential oils you've been keeping for a special occasion.

Watch a romantic film

Recent scientific studies found that watching a series or a film with your partner can actually strengthen the bond between you.

You experience similar emotions at the same time, you can debrief afterwards and you cuddle up together while you watch.

And if you struggle to get your other half to watch a rom com with you, then what about a period drama?

Have a breakfast in bed date

Who says a date has to be in the evening? Why not make a meal of it the morning?

Children allowing, there's nothing so romantic as breakfast in bed, stretched out in your pyjamas (or in the nude — no judgement here), tucking into some fluffy pancakes or a perfectly poached egg.

Plus, it means that you're already in bed if the mood happens to take you!
