8 shock Neighbours theories over Cassius's secret

He's the name on all our Neighbours' lips right now. Yes, gardener Cassius Grady has taken Ramsay Street by storm with his good looks, sunny personality and mastery of a pair of garden shears. The Ramsay Street bushes have never been more perfectly trimmed, nor its residents more besotted.

Is it just us, though, or does Cassius seem a little too good to be true? Fans quickly tipped Cassius as a possible suspect for Piper's mystery underliner (yes, it's a thing) and spoilers certainly seem to be pointing in that direction. Could that be the handsome newcomer's big secret, or merely the tip of the iceberg? Let's look at some of the best theories.

1. Cassius killed Hamish

Fans sobbed when Tyler Brennan was carted off to jail earlier this year for killing his estranged dad Hamish Roche. It was a sad ending for such a fan favourite, but if you ask us, the story has always screamed 'unfinished business'.

How could this involve Cassius, you ask? Cast your mind back to last November's Guy Fawkes gala. Hamish was minutes away from death and Terese's masquerade ball offered the opportunity for any suspicious individuals to go around unrecognised.

Viewers who re-watched these scenes spotted a familiar face (or should we say torso) handing out drinks and keeping a close eye on Hamish. You guessed it – Cassius.

Is this just a case of an actor returning in a different role? Maybe, but that's no fun. If it is Cassius, could he be responsible for offing Hamish and happily letting Tyler take the fall? There's even been speculation he's Hamish's son and Tyler's half-brother. Mind blown.

2. Cassius is Gabe's saviour

Remember when baby Gabe was kidnapped in 2017, leaving parents Paige and Jack distraught? The guilty party was Louise McLeod, Hamish's partner and co-conspirator. Even when she was arrested, Louise refused to reveal Gabe's whereabouts and all hope seemed lost… until he was mysteriously returned on Paige's doorstep by an as-yet-unknown person. What if that person was Cassius, Louise's toyboy lover and secret partner in crime?

Once Louise was arrested, maybe Cassius returned Gabe to save his skin. So, is it guilt that's brought him back to Erinsborough to redeem himself?

3. Cassius was in prison with Tyler

It may be a cliché, but soap law dictates that whenever a character is jailed, a former inmate must inevitably make an appearance. Tyler's been in prison long enough now to have racked up a few friends or foes that could've been released and made their way to Ramsay Street.

Maybe Tyler got on the wrong side of Cassius and now he's going to wreak havoc on Tyler's loved ones, as well as give them beautifully landscaped gardens. Or has Tyler grown worried about Piper and sent a mate to check up on her and make sure she's okay? The latter could lead to some 'unmissable drama' should Cassius fall for Piper…

4. Cassius is an internet stalker

One of the big Twitter theories about Cassius is that he was the one who rescued Piper when she was lost in the bush. Was this all just part of a masterplan to worm his way into Piper's life and her affections?

Piper has had no end of trouble with trolls due to her 'Pipe Up' vlogs, but she has her fans too. Could Cassius be a 'Pipe Up' superfan, so obsessed that he'd do anything to be with her? Could he have grown jealous of 'Typer', saved Piper's life and set Tyler up to take the fall for Hamish's murder?

With Tyler out of the picture and Piper recovering from her loss, the stage is set for her to be wooed by her number one fan. Think less Norman Bates with a briefcase, more Kathy Bates with a lawnmower.

5. Cassius is another one of Ramsay Street's 'secret sons'

It might be a cliché, but let's face it, what's Neighbours without a new character revealing themselves as a secret son/daughter/sibling/insert family member here of a Ramsay Street favourite? Just ask David and Leo. Or Paige. Or any number of surprise relatives who've cropped up over the years.

With that in mind, could Cassius be the result of a long-forgotten one-night-stand for one of our characters? Gary's history is a blank slate and Cassius could be just about young enough. You could never count out Paul Robinson to have another child or six out there somewhere either.

For our money, Sheila's deceased husband having an affair could be just the kind of dramatic story Sheila needs and would mean those resemblances to Kyle make a lot of sense!

6. Cassius is Andrea's spy

Fake Dee may be gone but never forgotten. The story may have taken a bit of a backseat lately, but recent spoilers prove that's soon going to change, so is the timing of Cassius's introduction a little too coincidental?

With Andrea off the grid, and Willow and Sindi firmly #TeamToadie these days, wouldn't it make sense for Andrea to hire someone to keep a close eye on the Rebecchis rather than risk being caught herself? And with the money she conned from Toadie, she has more than enough to bribe someone to do her dirty work.

With news that Madeleine West will be joining former Neighbours co-star Olympia Valance for a new telly drama in Australia, Cassius could well be the stalling technique we need until Andrea makes her big return – and the show reveals the real identity of that woman on the bench…

7. Cassius is a Renshaw

A what? Remember last year when that guy Mannix turned up, got stabbed and Leo made a million references to a Sydney-based crime syndicate that seemed destined to appear and never did? What if the plot was placed on the backburner only to shock us down the line?

History lesson: Leo used to work for a big crime family called the Renshaws and used the money he made to put David through medical school, before turning the family in and scarpering. What if Cassius is one of the family out for revenge and posing as a friendly, unassuming gardener? You've got to admit Cassius Renshaw is the single most soapy name ever. Here for it.

8. Cassius is out for buried treasure

Think about it. Unrestricted access to the Ramsay Street gardens and a legitimate reason to be there.

Perhaps Cassius heard that some rare stamps were buried at Number 32 and has decided to find them and make his fortune… What do you mean it's already been done?

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
