87 conditions at risk from a Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) crackdown on Personal Independence Payment have emerged. DWP PIP is designed to assist individuals with daily living and mobility needs, and supports a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.

But the cross-party House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee is calling for urgent reform to the health-related benefits system, having conducted an inquiry into the relationship between the welfare system and long-term sickness.

It comes as spending on incapacity and disability benefits has risen by more than 40 per cent in real terms since 2013 and now stands at £64.7 billion. People aged 16 to state pension age (currently 66) may be eligible for PIP if their condition limits their ability to work or carry out daily activities.
