9-1-1 spoilers follow.
Looks like 9-1-1 just waved goodbye to Jennifer Love Hewitt's Maddie Buckley, as the actor takes some maternity leave – so fret not, fans, as her departure may well turn out to be temporary.
Yesterday's (October 4) episode, which was the last in the season five's three-part premiere and titled 'Desperate Measures', saw Maddie drop her and Howard 'Chimney' Han's baby off at the firehouse, with a note that read: "I'm sure that you are confused, hurt and probably really scared. I don't know what to say.
"You don't need to go to the police or come looking for me. I'm not in any danger and no one is making me do this. Jee-Yun is not safe with me, not now and maybe [not ever].
"I know that you're going to take really good care of her, and she's better off without me. I love you. I love both of you. And I'm really sorry."
Considering she just left, rather than faced some grisly end on the procedural drama, it seems likely that Hewitt isn't gone for good. The Ghost Whisperer star gave birth to her and husband Brian Hallisay's second son, Aidan James, just last month, so it's possible Maddie will return once the real-life family has spent some good ol' quality time with its latest addition.
As for the other characters on the show, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) called time on his relationship with Ana (Gabrielle Walsh), Buck and Taylor's romance went from strength-to-strength, and well, bad guy Jeffrey Hudson wound up dead after a confrontation with Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett).
9-1-1 airs on FOX in the US and Sky Witness in the UK.
