Everyone in Emmerdale should know that getting involved with Charity Dingle is never a good idea, but try telling that to Vanessa Woodfield. A very surprising new storyline is about to see Vanessa give into temptation with Charity after they get locked in The Woolpack cellar together, which ultimately leads to a one-night stand between the pair.

But seriously, what on earth is Vanessa thinking? Surely she's been in Emmerdale for long enough to know about the curse of Charity? Here are nine other characters who've found themselves in all sorts of unfortunate situations after getting drawn into her tangled web.

1. Chris Tate

Charity married the first of her three husbands in 2001 when she tied the knot with Chris Tate, but it was hardly a fairytale partnership. Chris took a big risk by making Charity his third wife, foolishly deciding to forgive and forget even though he knew she'd been having an affair with his sister Zoe for months. Very easygoing of him!

Sadly for Chris, this wasn't the first time that Charity would look elsewhere for fun. He later caught her cheating with her old flame and cousin Cain Dingle, which finally sent him completely over the edge.

After being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour, heartbroken Chris decided the perfect way to make Charity pay was to take his own life and frame her for his murder. As you do in Soapland. Talk about twisted…

2. Marlon Dingle

One from our list of forgotten soap hook-ups and rarely mentioned these days, but Charity actually spent the night with Marlon Dingle – yep, another of her cousins – in 2003. The unlikely pair did the deed after Charity moved in with Marlon while still under suspicion for Chris's supposed "murder".

When Charity later discovered she was pregnant with Chris's son Noah, a gobsmacked Marlon was briefly a suspect in the "who's the daddy?" mystery that followed. Things only got worse for Marlon when his lovely wife Tricia discovered his betrayal, and they never did get a proper chance to sort things out before she died in the great storm of 2004. RIP!

3. Noah Dingle

We've already established that normal relationships aren't really Charity's strong suit, but the same could also be said for her parenting skills. After welcoming the arrival of little Noah, Charity wasn't too interested in changing nappies and was instead far more focused on how she might use the tot for a possible business transaction. Seriously, are there no lows she won't stoop to?

Striking a deal with Zoe, cunning Charity promised her custody of Noah in exchange for £20,000 and evidence that proved her innocence over Chris. The deal went ahead, but proving she always comes up trumps, it wasn't long until Charity got Noah back for herself. Poor lad.

4. Tom King

Charity did seem to have genuine feelings for her next love interest Tom King and he nearly became husband #2. Sadly, their relationship succumbed to the usual Charity curse when Tom's meddling daughter-in-law Sadie set her up to be caught on camera appearing to kiss Cain.

When Tom kicked Charity to the kerb and called off their wedding plans, she took her revenge by having an affair with Sadie's husband Jimmy King. During the fling, Charity took the opportunity to record hapless Jimmy singing like a canary about Sadie's masterplan against her.

Realising he'd been duped when Charity played the tape publicly at a party, Tom wanted the blonde bombshell back in his arms. But come on, when was Charity ever one to give second chances to anyone apart from Cain?

5 and 6. Jai Sharma and Rachel Breckle

Charity defied Cain's disapproval by getting married to sweet factory tycoon Jai Sharma in 2012, but she was left genuinely heartbroken when she discovered that he'd cheated on her by getting his cleaner Rachel Breckle up the duff with baby Archie. This was one of the village's longest-running secrets, so the pay-off was always going to be huge.

Deciding to hit Jai where it hurt, Charity teamed up with Declan Macey to bully Rachel into taking the blame for a shock fire at Home Farm, then giving her all the money she needed to go on the run with little Archie. Poor Jai was gutted to be separated from his son, while Rachel was also forced to leave her beloved Sam. But what did they expect when they messed with Charity?

7. Declan Macey

Charity and Declan's dark union marked the beginning of a relationship between the pair and they ended up tying the knot in 2014. Understandably though, Declan wasn't best pleased when he discovered that she'd had a termination behind his back, which she'd passed off as a miscarriage and callously blamed his sister Megan for.

Once normal and easygoing, the double pressures of having Charity for a wife and living in Emmerdale's most doomed location had taken their toll on Home Farm boss Declan at this point. As a result, Declan took his evil revenge by luring Charity out to a remote cottage and repeatedly trying to murder her.

Despite having six episodes to manage it in a special "Macey Madness" week, Declan's efforts didn't work (this is Charity, after all), but he did later succeed in exposing her true colours by telling the Dingles how she'd ruined the lives of Jai, Rachel and Sam.

8. Frank Clayton

When Frank had a very brief fling with Charity earlier this year, he had no idea of the trouble he was letting himself in for. Once the truth came out, Frank's betrayed partner Megan was determined to get revenge – and her desire for payback was eagerly encouraged by Charity, who had nothing better to do at the time.

Putting their own rivalry to one side for once, Megan and Charity hatched a grand masterplan to get feckless Frank sent down for fraud, seeing it as the perfect punishment for messing them both around. Megan soon got cold feet but, with no considerable conscience to speak of, Charity called the police and got him arrested. Hasn't anyone ever told her it takes two to tango?

9. Cain Dingle

Let's face it, Cain has always given as good as he gets when it comes to Charity and the pair of them are their own worst enemies whenever they're together. But we have to mention last year's debacle, when they briefly reunited for the 50th time and planned to leave the village, only for Cain to back out at the last minute.

Charity's latest crazy revenge mission saw her fake her own suicide in the desperate hope that it'd make Cain feel bad about rejecting her. It did, for about five seconds, until he realised it was all another con. They just know each other too well...
